About the Role
The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) is seeking dedicated individuals to join their team as Police Officers. This role is essential for maintaining public safety, enforcing laws, and supporting criminal investigations within the FBI. The position is exempt from the federal civilian hiring freeze. At the FBI, we focus on developing talent from within, empowering our officers to enhance their law enforcement expertise and contribute effectively to team objectives. You will be instrumental in ensuring smooth operations by upholding safety standards and legal compliance.
Key Responsibilities
Police officers at the FBI are tasked with a variety of critical duties to ensure public safety and security. This includes:
- Maintaining public order and responding to emergency situations.
- Protecting individuals and property through vigilant enforcement of laws.
- Conducting thorough criminal investigations and apprehending suspects.
- Investigating traffic accidents and other incidents to determine causes and identify criminal activity.
- Documenting incidents and activities by preparing detailed reports.
- Screening individuals and vehicles for access to secure areas and detecting potential threats like explosives.
- Responding to alarm situations and safeguarding national security information and assets.
- Protecting civil rights and ensuring safety in diverse and potentially hostile environments.
Specialized Experience
The role requires progressively specialized experience depending on the grade level:
- GS-7: One year of experience equivalent to GS-5, involving independent performance of routine fixed post and patrol duties, including enforcing traffic laws and regulating access to federal buildings.
- GS-9: One year of experience equivalent to GS-7, demonstrating knowledge of basic laws, law enforcement operations, and techniques for maintaining order and protecting life and property. Experience may include police work, military police, visitor protection, or criminal investigations. Report writing and citation issuance are also key.
- GS-10: One year of experience equivalent to GS-9, focused on law enforcement work protecting life, property, and civil rights, with a secondary mission of safeguarding government property and national security. This includes responding to sensitive situations and maintaining order on federal property.
- GS-11: One year of experience equivalent to GS-10, involving operations and techniques for preventing or resolving offenses, conducting preliminary investigations for a wide range of crimes, and employing patrolling strategies for crowd control, threat detection, and support during critical incidents.

Key Requirements:

- Ability to pass the Police Officer Selection System (POSS) written test and panel interview (travel expenses are the applicant's responsibility).

- Possession of a valid driver’s license (or ability to obtain one).
- Proficiency with firearms and other weapon systems.
- Completion of a financial disclosure form.
- Mandatory training at the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center (FLETC) in Glynco, Georgia (exceptions considered case-by-case).
- Adherence to a service agreement upon appointment.
- Ability to obtain a Top Secret Clearance.
- Willingness to travel as required.
- Must meet FBI's Employment Eligibility requirements.
- Willingness to work shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
Education: A bachelor’s degree or higher from a U.S.-accredited college or university is required. All degrees must be verified with college transcripts.
