Job description

About Calian

Calian is a long-established organization that has been helping clients manage risk, solve difficult problems, and move forward since 1982. What started as a consulting business has grown into a global company working across defence, space, health, nuclear energy, public safety, and government.

The company focuses on practical, innovative solutions that support resilience, awareness, and connection for organizations and communities. This role is well suited to someone who is motivated by purpose and enjoys applying their skills to meaningful, real-world challenges.

Position Overview

Calian Health Services is looking for a Physiotherapist to join the Canadian Forces Health Services Centre in Trenton. The role involves providing assessment, consultation, and treatment services within the physiotherapy department through scheduled appointments and walk-ins, as well as supporting the Care Delivery Unit through sick parade and consultation as part of a collaborative care model.

This environment is patient-focused and offers the opportunity to work with clients who are generally fit, motivated, and actively engaged in recovery. There is sufficient time to properly assess and treat each patient, and the clinical team works in a highly collaborative setting. The treatment approach emphasizes evidence-based practice, manual therapy, and exercise-based rehabilitation.

Military personnel also have broad access to health resources that support their readiness to serve.

Responsibilities

  • Provide physiotherapy and rehabilitation care using evidence-informed methods and accepted best practices while staying within regulatory and professional scope.
  • Manage an orthopedic caseload of approximately 12 to 15 patients per day.
  • Assess and treat neuro-musculoskeletal issues, especially those linked to sports injuries, training injuries, workplace injuries, and accidents.
  • Complete screening assessments, patient education, and orthotic recommendations in a direct-access setting such as CDU walk-ins.
  • Create and prescribe exercise plans that support recovery, reduce future injury risk, and improve fitness.
  • Deliver ergonomics education, including conducting on-site workplace assessments when needed.
  • Teach patients and healthcare team members about physiotherapy-related topics such as injury prevention and health promotion.
  • Help develop, prepare, and run clinic programs that support rehabilitation and education, including proprioceptive rehabilitation, reintegration, and back pain self-management initiatives.
  • Take part in ongoing patient management through case presentations in interdisciplinary meetings, participation in clinical rounds, patient conferences, and arranging additional follow-up care.

Requirements

  • Active physiotherapy license in good standing with the College of Physiotherapists of Ontario.
  • Manual Therapy Level 2, Mackenzie Part B, or an Acupuncture/Dry Needling certification.
  • Current Standard First Aid and Basic Life Support (BLS) certification for Healthcare Providers, or an equivalent qualification such as CPR/AED Level C.
  • At least 3 years of experience in orthopedics or sports medicine.
  • Ability to obtain a Government Security Clearance at the Secret level.
  • A security clearance and/or vulnerable sector screening may be required, and the recruiter will explain the process.

Perks and Benefits

  • A treatment approach centered on the patient, with strong emphasis on evidence-based rehabilitation and active therapy techniques.
  • Weekday schedule from 7:30 am to 4:00 pm, with no evening or weekend shifts.
  • No billing or marketing duties, allowing focus on clinical care.
  • Unlimited access to resources that support patient treatment.
  • Large and spacious treatment areas.
  • A patient population that is engaged and motivated to recover.
  • A collaborative multidisciplinary team environment.
  • Access to on-base and in-house facilities, including exercise programming, gym equipment, custom bracing and orthotics, and specialized military equipment.
  • Comprehensive health and dental benefits for eligible full-time roles.
