About the role
FairWind is looking for a meticulous and initiative-taking Payroll Lead to join its APAC Finance team in Brisbane. The position plays a key part in delivering payroll that is accurate, compliant, and completed on time across multiple projects and roster arrangements throughout Australia and the wider APAC region.

Key responsibilities
- Run weekly and monthly payroll cycles from start to finish.
- Keep employee records accurate, including hires, exits, and changes to pay.
- Ensure payroll activities meet Fair Work, ATO, and superannuation requirements.
- Prepare and submit STP, payroll tax, workers’ compensation, and superannuation reports/returns.
- Match payroll journals, leave balances, and general ledger entries.
- Handle payroll questions quickly and professionally to support a positive employee experience.
- Produce detailed payroll reporting for leadership and project managers.
- Assist with audits by supplying reliable payroll and compliance records.
- Stay current with legislation, awards, and enterprise agreements, including those relevant to construction and renewable energy roles.
- Work with internal teams to align payroll information with budgeting and forecasting processes.
- Support customer invoicing and project billing tasks when needed.
- Contribute to month-end and year-end financial reconciliation activities.
Experience and skills
- 3 to 5 years of payroll processing experience, ideally gained in construction or renewable energy environments.
- Hands-on experience with Employment Hero and intermediate-level Excel capability.
- Strong working knowledge of Australian payroll laws, Fair Work rules, and superannuation compliance.
- Excellent accuracy, organisation, and time management, especially when working to tight deadlines.
- Exposure to multi-site or project-based rostering is a strong advantage.
- Clear communication skills and a practical approach to problem-solving.
