About WestJet

WestJet has been building its story since 1996, with a long-standing focus on creating a workplace and service culture that people can be proud of. The company is recognized in Canada for its strong corporate values and high standards of service.

This role requires working in person for up to five days each week. That arrangement may be adjusted depending on business needs.

Role overview

The team is looking for someone who is service-oriented, eager to learn an internal payroll platform, and interested in growing within a collaborative and caring environment. Accuracy, timeliness, and respectful treatment of employees are central to the role.

Key responsibilities

  • Run semi-monthly payroll for the company and make sure employee transactions, updates, and changes are processed correctly.
  • Serve as the main contact for employees and leaders with payroll questions and issues.
  • Calculate payroll adjustments such as bonuses, retroactive pay, overpayments, and other special corrections.
  • Prepare and send payroll reports as well as journal entries.
  • Develop and keep process guides and documentation current.
  • Work closely with teams such as time management, compensation, employee health, and people services on pay-related matters.
  • Support Service Canada and other outside parties by preparing, managing, administering, and submitting records of employment, requirements to pay, garnishments, and similar items.
  • Maintain employee data accurately while protecting privacy and confidential information.
  • Prepare and reconcile all statutory remittances.

Experience and qualifications

  • High school completion is required.
  • A Payroll Compliance Professional (PCP) designation from the National Payroll Institute is mandatory.
  • At least 5 years of Canadian payroll processing experience in a high-volume internal payroll environment is required.
  • You should understand payroll, benefits, taxation, and the relevant legislative requirements.
  • Strong numerical ability and comfort working with calculations are essential.
  • You must be able to handle sensitive information with discretion, diplomacy, and confidentiality.
  • The role calls for calm decision-making under pressure and the ability to prioritize effectively.
  • Strong communication, critical thinking, problem-solving, and judgment are important.
  • You should be willing to work a flexible schedule.
  • Intermediate to advanced experience with Microsoft tools such as Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Teams is needed.
  • Experience with JDE is considered an asset.

Benefits

  • Colleagues work in a friendly, energetic culture focused on shared success.
  • Travel privileges are available for you and your family starting on your first day.
  • Flexible savings and benefits programs are offered to suit different personal needs.

Additional information

WestJet Group of Companies began in 1996 with just over 200 employees and three aircraft serving five destinations. Over time, the company helped reshape low-cost air travel in Canada and now supports a large network across North America, Central America, the Caribbean, Europe, and Asia. The WestJet Group includes WestJet Airlines, WestJet Encore, and Sunwing Vacations Group.

Safety requirements

Safety and security are shared responsibilities across the organization. Team members are expected to follow safe work practices to protect themselves, their colleagues, guests, suppliers, and the public. For roles classified as safety-sensitive, passing a pre-employment alcohol and drug test is required under the company’s alcohol and drug policy.

Inclusion and accessibility

WestJet is committed to fairness, equity, inclusion, and accessibility in hiring. Applicants are encouraged to apply even if they do not meet every listed qualification. Accommodation can be requested at any stage of the hiring process.

Application and privacy notes
