Position Overview

The Payment Processor II role is designed for a detail-focused individual responsible for accurately posting daily customer payment transactions and delivering key accounting support to Collections, Recovery, and Loan Servicing teams. The position involves processing various payment types, conducting detailed account research, and resolving discrepancies to ensure precise financial management.

Key Responsibilities

  • Accurately post daily funds received via lockbox, internal payments, wires, and other sources to customer accounts.
  • Investigate and resolve account-related discrepancies, communicating findings and solutions to relevant stakeholders.
  • Make necessary adjustments to the general ledger, customer accounts, and dealer accounts.
  • Process final payments, rejected items, and exception transactions.
  • Manage the un-posted payment queue to ensure timely and proper application of funds and account closures.
  • Handle monetary transactions regarding charge-offs and recoveries efficiently.
  • Identify and resolve complex account issues including fee waivers and monetary adjustments beyond standard policies.
  • Support and assist Payment Processor I with complicated account issues and queries.
  • Participate in training other payment processing staff by identifying training needs and recommending improvements.
  • Complete all testing during system upgrades to ensure accuracy and continuity.
  • Serve as the point of contact and liaison for partners such as Wells Fargo, Western Union, and MoneyGram to facilitate quality issue resolution.
  • Assist in additional accounting functions as required.
  • Maintain confidentiality with access to sensitive personal consumer information including Social Security numbers and birth dates.

Qualifications and Requirements

  • Minimum of two years' experience in payment processing or related financial functions.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate's degree in Finance, Accounting, or related field preferred.
  • Familiarity with electronic payment systems, invoicing practices, and account reconciliation processes.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook, plus an aptitude to quickly learn new software systems.
  • Strong analytical skills for evaluating information and developing alternative solutions.
  • Effective communication skills to address customers’ needs, resolve conflicts, and work collaboratively.
  • Written communication skills ensuring clarity and correctness with grammar and spelling.
  • Ability to balance team contributions and individual responsibilities, providing and receiving constructive feedback.
  • Sound business judgment and tact in interactions, adherence to policies, and meeting organizational goals.
  • Consistent accuracy, thoroughness, and reliability with productivity and deadlines.
  • Adaptable to changes, delays, and unexpected challenges, maintaining punctuality and managing workload independently.
  • Willingness to work overtime as necessary and travel up to 10% of the time.
  • Reliable transportation and residence within commuting distance of Atlanta, GA is required.

Preferred Attributes

  • Experience in the automotive or captive financing sector is advantageous.
  • Knowledge of Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX), compliance requirements, and audit procedures.
  • Understanding of payment processing cycles, payment methods, and fundamental accounting principles.

Physical and Work Environment

This role involves mostly sedentary tasks requiring sitting, hand use, and occasional standing or walking. The employee must be able to occasionally move up to 10 pounds and have close vision. The workplace typically has moderate noise levels.

Work Schedule and Legal Requirements

The position requires flexibility for various shifts primarily between 8 AM and 6 PM Monday through Friday, with weekend availability as needed. Travel may be required for up to 10% of work time. Candidates must be authorized to work in the United States; no visa sponsorships will be provided.
