Overview

The Texas Attorney General's Office (OAG) is seeking a Payment Processing Specialist to join the Child Support Payment Processing Section in Austin, TX. This role involves analyzing and researching child support payment data, developing strategic payment research methods, and managing payment processing operations in collaboration with state and financial institutions. Key Responsibilities

  • Review and initiate moderate to complex financial adjustments from mail sources and internal requests.
  • Investigate child support payment processing issues, resolve banking and deposit discrepancies, identify potential fraud, and manage payment reconciliation cases using relevant legal and database resources, ensuring compliance with federal and state regulations.
  • Assist in program planning and contract management activities, including development, award, implementation, and monitoring to enhance child support collection processes between the State Disbursement Unit and Payment Processing section.
  • Create and implement procedural or policy improvements, document workflows, identify policy weaknesses, and provide training and technical guidance to staff and officials.
  • Handle complex inquiries from field offices, customers, counties, and employers concerning financial issues, recoupments, and payroll holds related to child support; effectively communicate with various external partners to resolve payment concerns.
  • Collaborate with programmers, analysts, subject-matter experts, and project managers to support program initiatives and prepare detailed administrative reports and research studies.
  • Maintain confidentiality and security of sensitive information and comply with all agency ethics and procedural standards.

Qualifications

  • Minimum: High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Preferred: Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution or equivalent years of relevant experience in administration, business, child support programs, financial processing, government, or planning.
  • Five years full-time experience in related fields such as administration, business, child support, financial operations, or government roles.
  • Experience in accounting or auditing within a high-volume automated payment processing environment, with some supervisory experience favored.
  • Strong multitasking skills, deadline management, oral and written communication abilities, sound judgment, and decision-making capabilities.
  • Ability to accept constructive feedback, work cooperatively in professional office settings, and deliver excellent customer service.
  • Must have access to personal transportation for work-related travel and be able to perform in-person duties consistently at the assigned OAG location.
  • Ability to work beyond standard 40-hour weeks as required, in compliance with labor laws, lift and move items up to 30 pounds, and travel up to 5% including overnight stays.

Preferred

  • Experience with TXCSES financial systems.

Additional Information

The position requires adherence to the OAG's policies including ethics, integrity, and confidentiality. Employees must maintain regular attendance schedules with in-person presence at the office.
