Job description

Overview

Tātaki Auckland Unlimited, part of Auckland Council, helps drive Auckland’s economic and cultural growth by supporting major events, destination marketing, arts, culture, and economic development. In this role, you will join the security team as a Mobile Patrol Officer, helping maintain safe, orderly, and welcoming environments across some of the city’s best-known venues.

Your day-to-day work will involve protecting people, property, and facilities while delivering strong customer service to visitors, event personnel, and other stakeholders. The venues covered by this position include Go Media Stadium, North Harbour Stadium, Western Springs Stadium, and Auckland Zoo. You will be assigned to a particular area or team and backed by the Communications Centre throughout your shifts.

What the role involves

This is a permanent, full-time opportunity and a genuine chance to build a career in security, with all training supplied. The organisation’s security model is based on being well prepared, ready to respond, and continually developing its people.

About you

No previous security background is required. The ideal candidate will bring a professional attitude, reliability, and a customer-first mindset, along with the willingness to learn and do the job well. If you take pride in acting responsibly and working constructively with others, training and support will be provided to help you succeed.

Requirements and conditions

  • You must already have the legal right to work in New Zealand.
  • Two favourable references from past employers or similar contacts are required.
  • A full, clean, valid New Zealand driver licence is essential.
  • You need to be available for a rotating 4-on, 4-off roster.
  • Because the role includes hours outside standard business times, you will need dependable transport and must be comfortable working shifts.
  • You must be able to pass a Ministry of Justice criminal history check.
  • You will need to pass a drug and alcohol screening test.
  • The position requires the physical ability to stand and walk for long periods across large venues.
  • If you already hold a Certificate of Approval (COA) and/or an NZQA National Certificate in Security (Level 3), that is an advantage; however, the employer only requires that you are willing and able to obtain them if appointed.
  • The cost of obtaining these qualifications will be reimbursed after you are hired.
  • Enrolment for the qualification should only happen once you have been confirmed as the selected candidate after discussion with the hiring manager.

Pay and benefits

The starting salary for this role is $60,216, increasing to $62,492.38 once your log book is completed. In addition, the organisation offers a changing and expanding range of council and partner benefits.

Inclusion and application notes

Tātaki Auckland Unlimited is committed to an inclusive workplace and encourages applications from Māori, Pacific peoples, the rainbow community, and people with disabilities or neurodiverse experiences. The organisation also supports equal opportunity and welcomes diverse backgrounds, identities, and ways of thinking.

Applicants are asked to submit a tailored cover letter explaining why they are interested in the role and how their experience and current skills align with the requirements. The cover letter should not be AI-written. If your CV is current, you do not need to repeat non-mandatory role history fields. If you need support or have access requirements, you are encouraged to share this during the application process. Salary protection and/or predecessor employment terms may apply for current employees moving from existing Tātaki Auckland Unlimited roles, and a new employment offer would be issued if you move into a different position.

If you have questions after reviewing the role information, you may contact the hiring team through the provided recruitment contact.
