Job description

About the role

Hey Jane is hiring a detail-focused, empathetic, and tech-comfortable Patient Care Advocate to support patients seeking reproductive and sexual health care. The organization has supported over 100,000 people and delivers discreet, judgment-free care through virtual services backed by an in-house clinical team.

This position is full-time and combines in-clinic and remote work at the Oakland clinic. The initial arrangement is 30 hours per week onsite and 10 hours remote. The expected start is in early August.

Unless otherwise stated, remote work is allowed only from CA, CO, IL, MA, MD, NJ, NY, OR, and WA. For this role, however, in-clinic presence in Oakland is required.

Schedule and compensation

Working hours are 9:00 AM to 7:00 PM PT in 10-hour shifts. The weekly schedule runs Wednesday through Saturday, with Wednesday to Friday in the clinic and Saturday remote.

Pay is $60,000 to $62,000 per year on a salaried basis and includes benefits, along with additional on-site and weekend differential pay.

What you will do

  • Respond to patient questions about treatment, logistics, and the next steps in their care.
  • Resolve concerns tied to shipping, refunds, appointment scheduling, and care coordination.
  • Follow patients throughout their care journey and make sure follow-up happens on time.
  • Review, record, and report insurance eligibility details.
  • Keep documentation accurate in the EMR while meeting HIPAA and privacy standards.
  • Handle several priorities at once while staying dependable, clear, and supportive to both patients and internal teammates.
  • Maintain a high standard of accuracy and completion, since small errors can affect patient care.

What we are looking for

  • Prior healthcare experience in a role such as MA, PCA, CNA, or a similar patient-facing or clinical position, plus at least 1 year of abortion care experience.
  • Ability to work comfortably across both clinic-based and remote settings.
  • Strong communication, organization, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Solid triage judgment and the confidence to make real-time decisions.
  • Clear, compassionate communication skills for supporting patients during stressful or uncertain moments.
  • Comfort using digital tools and technology to communicate and deliver care.
  • Ability to support patients with sensitive issues such as abortion and birth control.
  • Familiarity with care protocols, regulatory obligations, and internal policies related to patient care and documentation.
  • Experience with trauma-informed care and the ability to respond with calm, respect, and appropriate pacing during crises.
  • Interest in ongoing process improvement to help refine workflows, tools, and care delivery.
  • Strong time management and prioritization skills, plus proactive communication with teammates about updates and follow-through.

Bonus qualifications

  • Spanish fluency.
  • Experience working remotely or in a hybrid setup.
  • Background in a startup or fast-growing company.

Benefits

  • Competitive pay of $60,000 to $62,000, plus equity and weekend/on-site differential pay.
  • Flexible vacation policy.
  • Health, dental, and vision coverage with FSA.
