Job description

Role Overview

The tutor plays a crucial role in advancing student success by supporting their academic journey. Effective communication and adaptability in teaching are essential to accommodate a diverse student body. Tutors engage with individuals or groups and must be prepared to conduct sessions both online and on campus. The focus is on subjects where the tutor has strong academic expertise, with working hours determined by student demand and tutor availability. Tutors may be stationed at the Jackson or Macon campuses.

Core Responsibilities

  • Offer scheduled tutoring appointments for individuals or small groups in subjects including Accounting, Anatomy and Physiology, Astronomy, Biology, Business, Chemistry, Computer Science, English, Math, Physics, and Spanish.
  • Track attendance and progress of students during tutoring sessions.
  • Identify students facing challenges and suggest supplementary college resources when appropriate.
  • Encourage students to develop independent learning skills.
  • Organize tutoring sessions and coordinate schedules.
  • Complete and submit required documentation such as reports and timesheets promptly.
  • Apply skills-based tutoring methods emphasizing critical thinking development.
  • Maintain professional and consistent communication with students, the Learning Assistance Director, and faculty.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Participate in trainings and professional development to obtain CRLA Level I certification within the first semester and CRLA Level II certification by the end of the second semester.

Qualifications

  • Possess an Associate's degree or higher, or be currently enrolled in a college or university.
  • Exhibit strong communication skills.
  • Demonstrate enthusiasm and a motivating attitude towards students.
  • Maintain professionalism including reliability and punctuality.

Compensation and Conditions

  • Hourly wage of $16.50.
  • This is a part-time, non-exempt staff position.
  • The college reserves the right to modify duties, work conditions, hours, and job title as needed.
