Job description
Company Overview
GreyZone Health specializes in advocating for patients with complicated, rare, and diagnostically difficult medical conditions. The organization collaborates with clients and their families to clarify diagnoses, coordinate care across specialties, and expertly navigate the healthcare system with compassion and clinical knowledge. Currently, GreyZone seeks two skilled clinicians to take on part-time Care Advocate positions.
Role Summary
The Care Advocate acts as the primary clinical strategist and case manager for a limited number of medically complex clients. Each advocate oversees the entire case, steering diagnostic and care coordination efforts, maintaining a comprehensive perspective, and handling daily tasks to advance client outcomes. Advocates work closely with a multidisciplinary team including nursing, physician advisors, and administrators, ensuring collaborative support throughout each engagement.
This role emphasizes teamwork: no advocate independently manages cases, but instead participates in ongoing discussions and shared decision-making with colleagues and leadership.
Diagnostic Advocacy Approach
GreyZone employs a rigorous, systematic process developed over years for handling complex diagnostic challenges. They seek individuals who are inquisitive, eager to learn, and committed to applying established workflows while contributing their clinical expertise. This position suits clinicians wishing to complement and enhance a proven system rather than imposing entirely new frameworks.
Responsibilities
- Lead assigned cases by synthesizing clinical history, medical records, and provider input into clear diagnostic and care plans.
- Navigate clinical uncertainty with a hypothesis-driven methodology and leverage collective team knowledge to overcome challenges.
- Coordinate care among multiple specialties to ensure accurate, timely, and strategic execution of case management.
- Evaluate clients' physical and mental well-being to tailor advocacy plans accordingly.
- Thoroughly review medical documentation and communicate with clients and families to understand health status, objectives, and needs.
- Coordinate and participate in provider visits and procedures either remotely or onsite when required.
- Collaborate with treating clinicians, facilitating referrals or recommendations as appropriate.
- Establish trust through empathetic communication ensuring clients comprehend options and receive clear, supportive summaries.
- Maintain comprehensive documentation of advocacy activities with standardized digital tools and provide prompt updates.
- Deliver regular progress reports to clients and leadership consistent with team protocols.
- Collaborate closely with other advocates and advisors to verify clinical judgments and share case responsibilities.
- Monitor case advancement, identify and mitigate barriers, and escalate concerns to leadership with accountability.
Ideal Clinical Background and Expertise
- Current professional licensure such as Registered Nurse (RN), Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (ARNP/DNP/NP), Physician Assistant (PA), Physician (MD/DO), or Physical Therapist (PT/DPT).
- Preferably experience in neurology; additional expertise in immunology/rheumatology, gastroenterology, endocrinology, or cardiology is advantageous.
- Background handling diagnostically complex, multisystem, or rare disease patient cases.
- Experience in independent clinical practice, case management, or patient advocacy is highly valued.
Core Competencies
- Willingness to learn and apply GreyZone's diagnostic advocacy workflows combined with clinical expertise.
- Comfortable operating amid diagnostic ambiguity without predefined solutions.
- Innovative and persistent problem solver, overcoming obstacles creatively and resiliently.
- Strategic thinker with dependable follow-through on tasks.
- Outstanding empathetic communication and clinical evaluation skills.
- Strong project management capabilities: thorough, well-organized, and able to juggle multiple cases.
- Collaborative mindset, sharing information proactively and supporting team members.
- Self-motivated, responsible, adaptable to clinical and family dynamic changes.
- Demonstrates integrity and openness to feedback within a close team environment.
- Professional demeanor maintaining appropriate client boundaries.
Requirements
- Valid license in RN, ARNP/DNP/NP, PA, MD/DO, or PT/DPT with good standing; Board Certified Patient Advocate (BCPA) credential is a plus.
- Applicants may reside anywhere in the United States, though preference is given to those in the Greater Seattle area due to occasional in-person meeting needs.
- Technologically equipped with a private remote workspace including high-speed internet, a secure connection, a personal password-protected laptop exclusively for work, and a direct personal phone line.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office or Google Workspace and comfort adopting GreyZone's case management systems.
- Agreement to comprehensive background and license verification including criminal checks.
Schedule and Workload
- Manage a typical caseload of three to five clients at any time.
- Part-time contract role with flexible, fluctuating hours based on caseload and client needs.
- Regular documentation and task updates aligned with team reporting standards.
Compensation and Contract Details
- Competitive hourly wages aligned with clinical experience and background.
- Position begins on a contract basis without traditional employee benefits.
