Job description
Role overview
The Parent Support Specialist acts as a key point of contact for families within the school community. This role focuses on sharing information about educational options, family engagement activities, and community services that can support students and their households. The specialist should understand the school’s enrichment and after-school offerings well enough to guide parents and families toward opportunities that extend learning and participation.
The position also includes planning parent education efforts that help families understand school and community topics while giving them practical academic guidance and at-home learning ideas. A major part of the role is building stronger family involvement across the campus and helping strengthen student achievement through family-school partnership.
Core duties
- Share learning support ideas with parents that can reinforce classroom instruction or extend activities in group settings.
- Conduct home visits and keep complete records of each visit.
- Maintain knowledge of community services and connect families to the appropriate resources when needed.
- Act as a communication bridge between families and school staff.
- Plan and coordinate parent education events and programs that offer information, support, and practical resources for families.
- Stay well informed about school programs and student activity options so this information can be shared clearly with students and families.
- Distribute approved information about school programs and community activities at campus events and other community gatherings.
- Create an action plan with targeted engagement activities designed to increase parent participation.
- Support the recruitment, onboarding, record processing, and training of campus volunteers.
- Attend all required professional learning related to the position.
Additional employment conditions
