Role Overview
This position is for a paediatric nurse in Dublin, County Dublin, Ireland. The role calls for a nurse with previous experience from Western Europe, the USA, South Africa, or Australia, along with strong command of written and spoken English.
Key Duties
- Deliver broad, high-quality nursing care by applying the nursing process, with a focus on direct patient care.
- Provide hands-on professional nursing support to patients while working under the guidance of the Head Nurse and/or Duty Manager.
- Be prepared to work any shift as needed across general and critical care units, operating rooms, labour and delivery units, emergency rooms, and clinic settings.
- Follow assigned working hours, which may include on-call duty.
- Carry out patient care and all connected nursing activities.
- Complete thorough initial and continuing assessments of a patient’s physical and psychosocial condition, with attention to age-specific needs.
- Identify educational needs of patients and families and assess their readiness to learn using suitable resources.
- Assess discharge planning requirements for patients and families using appropriate tools and support.
- Work with patients, families, and the wider care team to create and update care plans aligned with the diagnosis and the patient’s changing physical, psychosocial, and age-related needs.
- Set practical, measurable, and culturally appropriate goals, and determine the nursing actions needed to reach them.
- Organize and prioritise patient care activities on a day-to-day basis.
- Follow established clinical standards, hospital policies, and procedures at all times.
- Escalate care concerns when patient needs go beyond personal scope and seek the right support.
- Contribute to the creation and review of patient care standards, policies, and procedures, and take part in the Interdisciplinary Quality Assessment & Improvement Program.
- Take responsibility for ongoing professional growth and remain current in the nursing area of practice.
- Use computer systems and technology as required for the role.
- Maintain strong infection control and safety practices, and take corrective action when needed.
- Participate in fire drills, disaster drills, and mock code exercises.
- Show empathy, compassion, and a caring approach toward patients and their families.
