Job description
Role overview
As an Outdoor Adventure Educator, you will guide students through camping and outdoor learning experiences at MOE Outdoor Adventure Learning Centres. The role combines facilitation, student support, safety oversight, and programme planning to help learners build character and achieve the intended learning outcomes.
Key duties
- Lead outdoor adventure camp sessions and help students reflect on their experiences and learning.
- Keep students safe by giving clear safety briefings and following the required procedures at all times.
- Handle the administrative and logistical coordination needed for camp operations.
- Design and review camp programmes so they deliver the expected learning objectives.
Work pattern
You will usually run 4D3N or 3D2N camps under a 5-day work week, and Saturdays may be part of the schedule. The role follows a Work-Rest-Learn cycle, so after each camp you will receive an Off-in-Lieu rest day. Weekdays without camps are used for preparation for the next camp and for professional learning, supporting both recovery and ongoing development.
What we are looking for
- A strong interest in shaping students' character and development.
- Genuine enthusiasm for outdoor adventure experiences.
- The ability to build rapport and connect well with students.
- Comfort and capability in supervising activities at height and in water.
- A collaborative attitude and the ability to work well in a team.
- Good physical condition and mental stamina to handle the demands of the job.
- Prior experience leading outdoor activities for students will be an advantage.
Selection process
Applicants can generally expect an update within 4 weeks after the application window closes. If the volume of applications is especially high, updates may take up to 6 weeks from the close of the window.
Shortlisted candidates will need to complete a compulsory 1-day selection programme at an MOE Outdoor Adventure Learning Centre. This assessment includes competencies for height- and water-based activities, including the ability to swim in coastal waters. Candidates who progress further will then be invited to a 1-day attachment programme at an MOE Outdoor Adventure Learning Centre for a preview of the role and additional assessment by MOE.
