Role overview
People First Consult is recruiting for an Oil Operations Officer on behalf of its client in Addis Ababa. The position is focused on supporting petroleum operations across the downstream supply chain.
The client is a diversified private Ethiopian business group with interests in international trade, agribusiness, manufacturing, logistics, and industrial development. Its trading activity covers a wide range of commodities such as coffee, pulses, oilseeds, livestock, vehicles, food items, and textiles, while the group continues to broaden its footprint in manufacturing and new industrial ventures.
This role is best suited to someone with practical exposure to petroleum logistics, depot or terminal operations, and downstream fuel handling. Prior work with an Oil Marketing Company is considered a strong advantage.
Key responsibilities
- Assist in the receipt, transfer, loading, and offloading of petroleum products.
- Track tank quantities, product flow, and stock positions while keeping operational records accurate and up to date.
- Coordinate how products are allocated and dispatched to depots and offtakers.
- Check custody transfer measurements and support accurate reconciliation of product volumes.
- Compile daily operational summaries, meter readings, and reports for incidents.
- Support product sampling, quality assurance checks, and compliance-related operational tasks.
- Work in line with HSSE standards covering health, safety, security, and environment.
- Liaise with terminal teams and other stakeholders to keep operations running smoothly.
Requirements
- A bachelor's degree in Transport & Logistics, Engineering, Supply Chain, or another relevant discipline.
- At least 2 to 3 years of experience in petroleum operations, terminal operations, depot operations, or downstream fuel logistics.
- Experience with an Oil Marketing Company is a strong plus.
- Solid understanding of petroleum product handling, logistics coordination, and stock control.
- Good analytical ability, communication skills, problem-solving ability, and report-writing capability.
- Comfort using Microsoft Office and data management tools.
