Role Summary
The Ventilation Officer position within the Technical Services team focuses on supporting the underground ventilation systems at George Fisher Mine. The role entails ensuring compliant, efficient, and safe operation of ventilation to maintain appropriate airflow, air quality, and environmental standards. This position reports to the Senior Ventilation Officer and collaborates closely with operations, planning, and engineering departments.
Work Pattern and Location
This residential role requires working a shift pattern of 5 days on, 2 days off, then 4 days on followed by 3 days off, with each shift lasting 9 hours. Relocation assistance is available for candidates relocating to Mount Isa.
Key Responsibilities
- Ensure underground ventilation systems adhere to safety, efficiency, and regulatory requirements.
- Monitor and optimize airflow, air quality, and environmental conditions in underground operations.
- Identify and mitigate ventilation-related risks such as gas, heat, dust, and airflow blockages.
- Maintain and improve ventilation modeling to support current operations and future plans.
- Provide practical ventilation advice to operations and planning teams for developments and infrastructure.
- Monitor ventilation controls and infrastructure to assure intended performance and maintenance.
- Keep accurate records, reports, and compliance documentation related to ventilation.
- Contribute to developing ventilation standards, procedures, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Promote ventilation awareness and support safety practices across the site.
Candidate Profile - Skills and Experience
- Comprehensive knowledge of underground mining operations with the ability to work independently and collaboratively.
- At least 5 years of experience in underground ventilation, including a minimum of 2 years in metalliferous mining environments.
- Strong troubleshooting abilities for complex ventilation systems.
- Effective communication and problem-solving skills to liaise with diverse teams.
- Capability to interpret ventilation data and implement actionable control measures.
- Experience using ventilation modeling software such as Ventsim or its equivalent.
- Commitment to ongoing professional growth and continuous improvement.
- Background in environmental monitoring, heat management, or ventilation infrastructure installation is advantageous.
- Analytical skills for interpreting relevant data accurately.
