Job description

About the role

The organisation is focused on creating genuine communities that improve daily life for residents. To support that aim, it is hiring a Night Porter to help keep the village secure, orderly, and welcoming during overnight hours.

In this position, you will be an important presence after hours: supporting residents, handling night-time requests, and making sure shared spaces are clean, safe, and ready for the next day. This is a good fit for someone dependable, friendly, and committed to high-quality service in a community-led environment.

What you will do

  • Serve as the first contact for overnight emergencies and handle situations in a steady, effective manner.
  • Carry out routine village patrols and complete checks related to security, fire precautions, and general safety.
  • Greet and assist residents, visitors, and guests, offering directions, help, and information when needed.
  • Respond professionally to questions about the village, its amenities, and available services.
  • Keep communal areas clean and presentable throughout the night shift.
  • Clean and care for the gym, pool, steam room, and changing rooms, including testing and logging pool chemical levels.
  • Support emergency response activities such as first aid incidents and evacuations where required.
  • Move waste bins to the correct collection locations as part of waste handling duties.
  • Help maintain the safety, security, and wellbeing of the building and everyone in it overnight.

Requirements

  • Proven ability to remain calm, confident, and professional when dealing with challenging situations, ideally in a customer-facing or safety-related role.
  • Experience creating a warm, hospitable atmosphere while consistently delivering strong customer service.
  • A qualification in Health & Safety, COSHH, First Aid, or a similar area would be beneficial, but it is not mandatory.

Benefits

  • 33 days of annual leave, inclusive of bank holidays and adjusted pro rata to contracted hours.
  • Holiday purchase scheme with the option to buy up to one additional week off.
  • Extra time off for milestone birthdays ending in 0.
  • Bupa Health Cash Plan with employee assistance programme access.
  • Life assurance worth four times annual salary.
  • Matched pension contributions up to 5%.
  • Access to SMART technology to help improve work efficiency.
  • Retail savings across a broad range of outlets.
  • Wellbeing hub and resources, including discounts on wellbeing services.
  • Cycle-to-work scheme for commuting.
  • Electric car scheme for greener travel.
  • Modern workplace with gym, social spaces, and parking, plus the possibility of hybrid working.

Additional information

The employer welcomes applicants from all backgrounds and aims to foster a culture where everyone is included, involved, and able to contribute their individual strengths. The workplace is described as a community built around belonging, celebration of uniqueness, and ongoing support for people to do their best work.

The opportunity is presented as a role that offers more enjoyment, more satisfaction, and a strong sense of belonging within a close-knit environment.
