Job Overview
Join a dynamic team as a Mutuel Clerk, where you will handle the processing, cashing, redeeming, verification, and sale of pari-mutuel tickets for a variety of betting types. Customer service is vital as you assist guests with inquiries about tickets, explain wagering strategies courteously, and ensure accurate transactions.
Key Responsibilities
- Uphold company core values and adhere strictly to policies and procedures.
- Exemplify professionalism inside and outside the racing and gaming facility.
- Maintain punctuality and readiness to perform job duties.
- Demonstrate expert knowledge of pari-mutuel wagering, including reading tickets, operating tote keyboards, and understanding racing terminology.
- Stay informed about all racing components such as wagering types, simulcast availability, and track-specific offerings.
- Manage sales operations efficiently ensuring precise service when handling bets, cash transactions, refunds, cancellations, and providing instructions to guests.
- Distribute information on track scratches and race results promptly.
- Secure and balance money banks, verifying transactions through the sales system and completing all related paperwork accurately.
- Complete variance forms with explanations if discrepancies occur in money bank balances at shift end.
- Exhibit strong skills in money handling, counting, and performing complex mathematical calculations.
- Report any complaints or suspicious activities to management in a timely manner.
- Maintain confidentiality of winning tickets to respect guest privacy and company interests.
- Comply with departmental procedures, health and safety regulations, and Kentucky Horse Racing Commission rules.
- Cultivate guest loyalty through personalized, friendly, and professional interactions.
- Work cooperatively as part of a team, contributing positively and being receptive to coaching and development.
- Acquire comprehensive knowledge of facility services, locations, and promotions to assist guests accurately.
- Sustain positive, courteous relationships with all personnel, patrons, and vendors.
- Adapt to working under pressure including irregular hours, weekends, and holidays.
- Undertake any additional duties assigned as needed.
Qualifications and Experience
- High School Diploma or GED preferred.
- Experience in cashiering or related roles is advantageous.
- Must be at least 18 years old.
- Basic arithmetic skills including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division required.
- Eligibility to obtain and maintain a Kentucky Horse Racing Commission license.
Physical and Environmental Requirements
- Skill in using tote wagering systems and betting terminals.
- Competency with counting equipment such as 10-key calculators.
- Physical ability to talk, stand for prolonged periods, turn, twist, and use hands repetitively for most of the work shift.
- Capability to bend or stoop occasionally and carry or move light loads up to 20 pounds.
- Mental capacity to organize information, read, and perform math tasks consistently.
- Work occurs indoors and outdoors with exposure to cigarette smoke, temperature variations, loud noises, and confined spaces.
- Must hold and maintain a valid driver’s license.
