Job description
Position Overview
Elkhart County Government is looking to fill a full-time Multipurpose Landfill role within the Landfill department. The position is intended to start as soon as possible and is based at the landfill in Elkhart, Indiana.
Compensation
The pay range for this role is $23.01 to $25.57 per hour, with the exact rate depending on education and experience directly related to the job. Employees become eligible for longevity pay after completing 3 years of service.
Work Schedule and Location
This is an onsite position with a Monday through Friday schedule from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., totaling 40 hours per week. The work location is the Landfill in Elkhart. Travel may be required within the county, and applicants should complete the driving information section of the application if applicable.
Role Summary
The position involves guiding and positioning traffic, checking incoming waste loads, and operating vehicles and related equipment.

Requirements
Applicants must have a high school diploma or equivalent, be at least 18 years old, and hold a valid driver's license. Mechanical and maintenance abilities are required, along with practical understanding of landfill operations and the local, state, and federal rules, Indiana statutes, and standard procedures enforced by the Indiana Department of Environmental Management. A pre-employment background check is also required.
