Role Overview

This position is part of a customer-focused store team that works to deliver a strong overall guest experience and meet or exceed shopper expectations. The role may be placed in different store areas such as Center Store, Fresh Market, or Guest Services, depending on business needs.

Core Duties

The clerk supports sales and guest service, helps customers with product questions and special requests, and handles product orders with accuracy. The job also includes maintaining safe food-handling standards, keeping work areas clean and hazard-free, and receiving, checking, and recording incoming goods for correctness and quality. Product presentation, rotation, and stocking are also key parts of the role to keep merchandise fresh and attractive.

Department Responsibilities

  • Center Store / Front End: Operate the checkout lane in line with company procedures, learn and keep current with PLU codes and new products, order and receive merchandise, unload and stock shelves and cases, and complete POS and inventory tasks.
  • Produce: Receive and verify deliveries, trim, wash, and package produce according to company standards, maintain freshness through stocking and rotation, support floral displays inside and outside the store, and keep the department clean.
  • Meat / Seafood: Check deliveries for quality and accuracy, weigh, wrap, package, and label items for display, maintain freshness through rotation and merchandising, assist guests at the seafood counter, take custom and holiday special orders, operate equipment such as slicers and wrappers when needed, and maintain cleanliness.
  • Bakery / Deli: Receive and inspect inventory, prepare, weigh, package, and label baked goods and deli items, stock and rotate products to preserve freshness and presentation, take special orders such as cakes and party trays, use equipment like ovens, proofers, slicers, and mixers when assigned, and keep the area and equipment clean.
  • Janitorial: Maintain store cleanliness and sanitation by sweeping and mopping sales areas, back rooms, and refrigerated sections; cleaning restrooms, break rooms, office spaces, shelving, cases, front-end equipment, carts, and vending machines; caring for the front of store and parking lot; removing trash; and using scrubbers or buffers if required.
  • Valley Fresh: Check and record produce shipments, cut, trim, wash, juice, infuse beverages, and package items according to company standards, keep merchandise rotated and appealing, and maintain equipment and work areas.
  • Restaurant: Run the register per company process, stay informed about current menu items, take and complete guest orders at the register, and maintain cleanliness and sanitation in the restaurant area.

Additional Department-Wide Duties

  • Sweep and mop the sales floor, front end, back rooms, and refrigerated areas.
  • Operate a forklift if properly authorized and certified.
  • Use a baler if authorized to do so.
  • Complete other assigned work as needed.

Requirements

Candidates must be 18 years of age or older. The role calls for strong guest-service and communication abilities, both spoken and written. Applicants should be able to work quickly, stay self-driven, take initiative, show enthusiasm, and adapt well to changing needs. A high school diploma or GED is required, though relevant additional work experience may also be considered. At least six months of grocery retail experience is expected. Availability for a range of retail shifts is necessary. The job also involves frequent standing and movement, along with lifting up to 40 lbs without help.

Compensation

The hiring pay range is $17.15 to $26.20 per hour.
