Job description
Role overview
Canva is looking for a Motion Designer focused on social content to help shape high-quality motion assets for its growing video ecosystem. The work centers on animation, motion graphics, short-to-mid-form video storytelling, and visually engaging assets that can be reused across templates, learning content, character packs, animated scenes, and related experiences.
This position is part of a team that builds creative resources used by millions of people, with an emphasis on craft, scalability, and storytelling through motion.
Location and working style
The role can be based in Sydney or Melbourne. Canva’s main campus is in Sydney, and it also operates a campus in Melbourne. The company follows a flexible approach that lets team members and their teams choose the balance that best supports collaboration and goals, including coordination with global teams across time zones.
What you will do
- Produce and animate motion graphics, video elements, transitions, character movement, and narrative visuals.
- Create looping animations, expressive scenes, and story-led sequences.
- Partner with template designers so assets fit smoothly into user workflows.
- Work alongside product teams to understand new motion features and develop assets that showcase them.
- Keep creative quality strong while delivering content at scale.
- Take part in creative feedback sessions, asset planning, and experimentation.
- Stay current with animation trends, editing approaches, and modern visual storytelling methods.
What this role suits
This opportunity is ideal for a designer who is deeply interested in motion, confident with animation timing and pacing, and able to tell stories visually. The team is looking for someone who can adapt across styles, enjoys building assets that help others create, and is curious about motion design, film language, and mixed-media work.
You should be comfortable working independently, collaborating closely with others, and moving quickly in a content production environment.
About the team
The Content Studio team sits within Canva’s Global Content & Discovery group and works to help the world design more easily. The team creates templates and creative assets that inspire users, open up new use cases, and highlight what Canva’s product can do.
The team works closely with Video, Editing, AI, and Discovery to keep Canva at the forefront of visual communication worldwide.
Benefits
- Equity packages so you can share in the company’s success.
- Inclusive parental leave for all parents and carers.
- An annual Vibe & Thrive allowance for wellbeing, social connection, office setup, and similar needs.
- Flexible leave options to support rest, personal commitments, and positive impact.

Canva welcomes candidates from all backgrounds and encourages applications even if the listed experience does not match perfectly. Interviews are held virtually.
