About the Role

StoryToys is seeking a skilled Mid-Level 3D Artist to join their vibrant mobile game development team in Dublin. This position focuses on creating high-quality, mobile-optimized 3D assets and animations that align with the company's artistic vision and enhance player experience. You will work within an Agile production framework.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop high-quality 3D models for characters, environments, and props using Maya, strictly adhering to brand and company guidelines.
  • Create and apply textures and materials to models according to project specifications.
  • Produce smooth and engaging animations for characters and objects.
  • Integrate your created assets into the Unity game engine, following industry best practices.
  • Manage multiple projects concurrently, balancing various tasks and stakeholder requirements.
  • Collaborate effectively with designers, programmers, and fellow artists to seamlessly integrate assets into Unity.
  • Optimize all assets for mobile platforms without sacrificing visual quality.
  • Incorporate feedback from senior team members and adjust work as needed.
  • Maintain clear documentation of processes and workflows for team reference.
  • Proactively seek out new tasks, ensuring timely delivery within agreed deadlines and budgets.
  • Engage in self-directed professional development to stay current with industry trends and technologies, and be willing to learn new techniques.

Required Skills

  • Proficiency in Maya for 3D modeling, texturing, rigging, and animation.
  • Experience with the Unity game engine, including asset integration. Scripting and shader knowledge are advantageous.
  • Familiarity with Adobe Suite and Substance Painter.
  • Solid understanding of 3D art principles, including efficient modeling topology, poly count management, texturing, rigging, skinning, and animation.
  • Basic knowledge of version control systems like Git is beneficial.
  • Understanding of fundamental game design principles and mobile game development processes.
  • Familiarity with the Agile methodology for project management.

Preferred Qualifications

  • A degree in Fine Arts, Game Design, Computer Graphics, or a related field is a plus but not mandatory.
  • A strong portfolio showcasing relevant 3D models, textures, and animations is essential.
  • Prior experience in game development, particularly in the mobile gaming sector, is required.
  • Experience with additional software such as ZBrush or Premiere is advantageous.
  • Previous work experience in an Agile environment, especially within mobile games, is preferred.
  • Familiarity with project management and communication tools like Jira, Slack, Float, Teams, and Office is a desirable asset.
