Job description

About the Role

NHS Scotland is dedicated to fostering equality and diversity within its workforce and eliminating unlawful discrimination. The organization strives to assemble a team that represents all sections of society, where every employee feels valued and empowered to perform optimally. In line with this mission, NHS Scotland is offering 20 Medical Student Support Worker positions at University Hospital Crosshouse. These roles will have the selected candidates collaborating directly with medical teams, providing clinical assistance through procedures such as venepuncture, cannulation, ECGs, and other ward duties.

Candidate Eligibility and Purpose

Applications are sought from medical students currently in their 3rd to 5th year of medical school, including those engaged in intercalated degrees. This position is designed to enhance the clinical experience during medical education by offering essential development opportunities. The role supports priority service areas with clinical care provided by a well-trained doctor workforce. Through a 'learn and earn' framework, candidates will receive training and skills development in clinical procedures, facilitating further medical career progress.

Training and Commitment

Candidates must commit to a 3-hour clinical skills laboratory session (with two sessions available) and a comprehensive induction program spanning four weeks, conducted over weekends for 6 hours each day. The induction is remunerated at band 3 pay level. Upon satisfactory completion, candidates can join the nurse bank, allowing self-rostering of shifts up to 15 hours weekly during academic terms.

Additional Details

Interested applicants are encouraged to reach out to Dr. Amy Birt, Clinical Lead for the CDF Programme and Medical Workforce Liaison, for more information. The application deadline is July 31st, with interviews tentatively scheduled for the subsequent week via Microsoft Teams.
