About Western Slope Healthcare Center

Western Slope Healthcare Center, located in Placerville, CA, is currently seeking a detail-driven and organized Medical Records Assistant to join their dedicated team. This full-time position operates Monday through Friday from 8:30 am to 5:00 pm, offering an hourly wage between $20 and $23. The role centers on supporting resident care by maintaining accurate and secure medical records in compliance with HIPAA, federal, and state regulations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain and organize resident medical charts including nurses' notes, physician documentation, tests, and assessments, ensuring completeness and adherence to regulations.
  • Manage filing, indexing, coding, and retrieval of medical records for authorized personnel and agencies like Medicare and Medicaid.
  • Support health information management processes including admissions, discharges, and registry updates.
  • Provide administrative aid by preparing meeting minutes, answering inquiries, tracking resident demographics in electronic health records, and assisting the MDS Coordinator.
  • Ensure strict confidentiality and security of all resident and employee records, reporting any suspected breaches immediately.
  • Participate in facility audits, surveys, and regulatory compliance reviews to maintain documentation accuracy.
  • Foster cooperative relationships with nursing, therapy, admissions, and business office teams while continuously improving departmental operations.

Candidate Requirements

  • Minimum education requirement of a High School Diploma or GED.
  • Ability to accurately type at least 45 words per minute and proficiency in computer data entry and retrieval.
  • Exceptional organizational skills with a strong attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication and customer service abilities, with the capacity to handle sensitive information confidentially.
  • Preferred qualifications include experience in medical records, health information management, healthcare administration, and knowledge of medical terminology and coding.
  • Familiarity with electronic medical record systems and experience in healthcare facilities such as skilled nursing or rehab centers is advantageous.
