Job description

Overview

The Medical Attaché plays a vital role as the official representative in assigned overseas medical offices (such as Bonn, London, Thailand, Washington), serving as the primary liaison for international health diplomacy efforts. This role focuses on overseeing Qatari patients’ health situations abroad, ensuring smooth coordination and support throughout their treatment journey.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Accompany patients traveling internationally for medical care, facilitating their recovery and easing treatment-related challenges.
  • Develop an annual plan aimed at enhancing internal operational facets within the health office, including administration, accounting, IT, and service provision.
  • Monitor medical, administrative, and financial reviews of Qatari patients across therapeutic institutions to ensure quality assurance.
  • Provide patients comprehensive details on their treatment process and stay from arrival to departure.
  • Identify and recommend appropriate medical facilities for patients seeking treatment abroad.
  • Coordinate airport receptions, ground transportation, and transfers between health providers for patients.
  • Conduct visits to patients to gather feedback and complaints, then relay findings to the relevant department.
  • Oversee financial procedures, including reviewing medical invoices prior to payment authorization.
  • Authenticate medical reports and sick leave documentation.
  • Maintain a detailed database recording patient and escort information along with treatment and associated costs, periodically reporting to the department.
  • Guarantee safe repatriation of patients and escorts to Qatar.
  • Provide interpretation services during medical consultations and translate medical documents between English and other languages when necessary.
  • Arrange daily allowance payments for patients and their escorts.
  • Manage patient transport logistics from residences to hospitals and rehabilitation centers.
  • Handle visa extension paperwork in collaboration with local authorities for patients and escorts.
  • Coordinate procurement of medications and medical supplies required during treatment abroad.
  • Organize patients’ return travel arrangements to Qatar.
  • Prepare and submit regular performance reports to the Ministry of Public Health Medical Referral and Treatment Abroad Department, including clinical outcomes, complaint trends, and suggestions for continuous improvement.
  • Manage contracts and ensure quality compliance of service providers such as transport companies, translation agencies, auditors, pharmacies, etc.
  • Supervise students and employees sponsored for overseas education.
  • Perform additional tasks as assigned.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor’s, Master’s, or PhD degree in Medicine, Biological Sciences, Health Care Management, Public Health, or a closely related discipline.
  • At least 12 years of experience in healthcare-related roles, including a minimum of 5 years in leadership or management positions.

Work Environment

This position is based outside Qatar in one of the designated medical offices located in Bonn, London, Thailand, or Washington.
