About the role
The Materials Officer supports Austal’s supply chain and engineering teams by ensuring material codification and catalogue standards are applied correctly and that material data is available for use across projects. Reporting to the Material Management Lead, this position is accountable for delivering routine codification tasks and keeping inventory catalogue records accurate and current.

Key responsibilities
- Build and sustain effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
- Apply Austal’s codification rules, procedures, and workflow requirements.
- Support obsolescence activities by coordinating Supply Chain obsolescence surveillance and related assessments.
- Assist in preparing the Stocktaking Plan and coordinate related activities within asset management systems.
- Keep part catalogue data accurate, complete, and up to date.
- Review material requirements and planning inputs to support decision-making.
- Check and approve system-generated material requisitions against actual demand needs.
Requirements
- At least 5 years of experience in a comparable position within Marine Support, Engineering, Manufacturing, or Defence.
- Hands-on experience working in an ERP or similar computerised business system.
- Practical knowledge of asset management standards, systems, and processes.
- Strong understanding of codification and catalogue maintenance.
- Ability to obtain engineering delegation under Austal’s delegation framework.
