Job description
Role overview
This position is for an experienced material planner who will support the supply chain function for PCBAs and electronic parts. The role is centered on keeping materials available, maintaining inventory balance, and improving supply flow in a contract manufacturing environment. You will work closely with engineering, design, production, and procurement teams to support product lifecycle activities, manage engineering changes, and handle clear-to-build and run-out evaluations. The role also includes daily monitoring of supply constraints, status updates, escalation management, supplier coordination, and ongoing efforts to improve operational performance.
Key responsibilities
- Translate demand into the system and make sure it is clearly communicated to both internal and external suppliers. Carry out clear-to-build reviews to confirm that materials, components, and resources are ready for the production plan, while identifying and resolving bottlenecks ahead of time.
- Create and maintain material requirement plans for PCBAs and electronic components, monitor stock levels, and reduce both shortages and excess inventory.
- Handle product lifecycle planning, including phase-in and phase-out strategies, component obsolescence planning, and end-of-life coordination to support smooth transitions.
- Work through engineering changes by reviewing their impact on material supply, partnering with the PM to update BOMs, and realigning procurement plans with cross-functional stakeholders.
- Keep commitments updated for contract manufacturing vendors, review their capacity, lead times, and operational limits, and mitigate supply risks such as delays or part shortages.
- Contribute to continuous improvement work, including ERP enhancements and supply chain process improvements, to make material planning more efficient. Support new product introduction efforts and ensure material readiness from prototype stages through full production.
- Build, monitor, and share KPIs with cross-functional partners, including CTB, DOH, inventory excess, and obsolescence. Maintain strong end-to-end data accuracy so that demand is transmitted correctly to vendors.
Requirements
- A bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, Engineering, or a closely related field, or equivalent practical experience.
- At least 5 years of experience in material planning or a similar function within electronics manufacturing, especially in PCBA and contract manufacturing settings.
- Solid hands-on experience with MRP/ERP systems used in supply chain operations.
- Strong understanding of product lifecycle management, including obsolescence handling and end-of-life transitions.
- Advanced Excel capability, along with working knowledge of clear-to-build processes and run-out reporting.
- Strong analytical thinking, problem-solving ability, and communication skills, plus the ability to collaborate effectively in a team-based environment.
- Comfort working in a fast-moving, deadline-sensitive setting.
