Job description

Overview

The Material Inspector plays a critical role in verifying, testing, and monitoring construction materials for the RCRC Bridges Project, ensuring full compliance with contract specifications, quality standards, and international codes.

Material Inspection & Verification

  • Inspect materials delivered onsite and confirm they match approved specifications and submittals.
  • Examine material certificates, test reports, manufacturing documentation, and compliance records to validate authenticity.
  • Validate materials prior to their installation, maintaining continuous approval status.
  • Oversee proper storage, handling, and preservation to prevent damage or non-compliance.
  • Maintain traceability of all materials throughout construction stages.

Testing & Laboratory Coordination

  • Work closely with authorized testing labs for sampling and conducting tests.
  • Witness and confirm accuracy of field and lab testing processes.
  • Analyze test outcomes to detect any materials or products that fail to meet standards.
  • Ensure testing frequency aligns with contract clauses and inspection test plans.

Concrete & Structural Materials Inspection

  • Verify approved sources for concrete ingredients and materials.
  • Monitor all concrete activities including batching, delivery, placement, curing, and testing.
  • Inspect reinforcement before concrete placement to confirm compliance.
  • Assess concrete mix designs and associated quality documentation.
  • Ensure the bridge construction meets requirements for structural and high-performance concrete.

Structural Steel Inspection

  • Inspect structural steel materials, fabrication records, and protective coatings.
  • Check certificates for materials, welding supplies, and fabrication documentation.
  • Supervise delivery, storage, and installation of steel bridge parts.
  • Coordinate with welding and coating inspectors to guarantee project compliance.

Quality Assurance & Documentation

  • Review Material Inspection Requests from contractors thoroughly.
  • Generate detailed inspection reports and retain comprehensive inspection records.
  • Issue observations and non-conformance reports when necessary.
  • Monitor corrective measures and verify their successful completion.
  • Assist in quality audits and surveillance activities to uphold standards.

Contractor & Stakeholder Coordination

  • Participate in quality meetings, reporting on material compliance status.
  • Help resolve technical queries and quality issues related to materials.

Health, Safety & Environmental Compliance

  • Conduct inspections in alignment with project Health, Safety, and Environmental policies.
  • Encourage safe material handling and storage on site.
  • Oversee environmental compliance concerning material disposal and usage.
  • Engage in safety initiatives and site inspections to promote workplace safety.

Qualifications

  • Diploma or Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Materials Engineering, Construction Technology, or a relevant field.
  • Certifications in material testing, quality management, or construction quality assurance are highly valued.
  • Professional accreditations and memberships considered advantageous.

Experience

  • At least 5 to 8 years’ experience in material inspection and quality control for construction projects.
  • 3 to 5 years focused on bridge and transportation infrastructure projects.
  • Experience with Saudi Arabian or GCC infrastructure projects is a strong plus.
  • Prior work with international consultants, contractors, or project management consultants preferred.
