Reporting to the Director of Advancement, this role helps shape how the Browne Academy story is shared with prospective families, current families, alumni, faculty, staff, donors, and the wider community.
The right candidate will be an excellent writer and communicator who can work well in a busy environment, manage multiple priorities, and use engaging content to strengthen community connection across several channels.
Core Responsibilities
The role covers strategic messaging, website oversight, digital communications, social media, publications, media relations, analytics, and event support.
Strategic Communications & Storytelling
- Act as the lead voice for school storytelling by developing narratives that reflect the mission, values, programs, and community of Browne Academy.
- Work closely with administrators, teachers, students, parents, and alumni to surface and shape meaningful stories and content ideas.
- Create and execute communication plans that advance enrollment, fundraising, and community engagement priorities.
- Keep messaging, tone, and visual presentation aligned across all marketing and communication materials.
Website & Digital Communications
- Own the school website from a strategy and administration perspective.
- Keep the site fresh, user-friendly, on-brand, and up to date.
- Serve as the main contact for website hosting and development partners, including WordPress vendors.
- Partner with staff to manage website content and follow effective publishing practices.
- Prepare and send digital communications such as newsletters, announcements, and campaign-related messages.
Social Media & Content Creation
- Manage the school’s presence on Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, and YouTube/Vimeo.
- Develop original content in written, visual, and multimedia formats, including photos, videos, and graphics, to showcase school life and events.
- Review social media trends and performance data to improve engagement and grow the school’s online reach.
Publications & Marketing Materials
- Oversee the planning, design, production, and distribution of print and digital publications and collateral.
- Materials include the Annual Report, Inside Browne magazine, school calendar, yearbook, event programs, invitations, admissions materials, fundraising materials, flyers, brochures, and advertisements.
- Work with administrative colleagues on print and digital advertising initiatives that support admissions, advancement, and outreach goals.
- Maintain editorial and design standards that protect the consistency and quality of the Browne Academy brand.
Media Relations & Community Engagement
- Increase the school’s visibility through opportunities in print, digital, and broadcast media.
- Develop and maintain relationships with local media organizations and community partners.
- Arrange photo and video coverage of school activities and manage the school’s photo and video archive.
Analytics & Professional Growth
- Monitor and assess data related to communications performance, website traffic, marketing activity, and social engagement.
- Use findings to improve future strategy and decision-making.
- Stay informed about current trends and best practices in independent school marketing and communications.
- Take part in professional development, conferences, and field networks.
Additional Duties
- Help with school events and occasional evening or weekend commitments when needed.
- Take on other assignments from the Director of Advancement or Head of School as required.
Qualifications
Applicants should bring a bachelor’s degree, or equivalent relevant experience, in marketing, communications, public relations, journalism, graphic design, or a related area. Strong experience in marketing, communications, digital content management, and graphic design is expected.
