About the Museum
The Museum of Fine Arts in St. Petersburg is the city’s first art museum and serves as an important cultural hub for a lively arts community. Its collection spans almost 5,000 years and helps spark dialogue between past and present. The museum is committed to expanding the artistic canon, amplifying historically underrepresented artists, and welcoming more than 100,000 visitors each year, including many students through its partnership with Pinellas County Schools.
The institution values bold creativity, inclusive storytelling, and a supportive environment where employees can contribute their ideas, skills, and passion for the arts.
Role Overview
The Museum of Fine Arts, St. Petersburg is looking for a highly organized and imaginative Marketing and Communications Manager to strengthen its digital presence and carry out marketing initiatives. This position oversees everyday storytelling and communications operations while leading campaigns that build visibility, increase audience participation, and help advance attendance, fundraising, and membership objectives.
The role partners with teams across curatorial, education, museum experience, and development, along with outside collaborators such as Café Clementine and Constellation Catering. It combines strategic thinking with active content creation and calls for someone experienced in digital marketing, social media, graphic design, and public relations who can test approaches and adapt messaging for different audiences.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan and manage a flexible content calendar across social media, email, and the website, balancing scheduled campaigns with timely, responsive storytelling.
- Identify audience segments and shape communication approaches to fit each group.
- Work with the graphic designer to produce marketing materials in Adobe Creative Suite and Canva, and create in-house assets such as flyers, brochures, gallery labels, and signage when quick turnaround is needed.
- Capture photos and video on site and edit content for social media, web, and other uses.
- Help maintain and update the Bloomberg Connects app with multimedia content.
- Organize and preserve digital assets and brand standards.
- Create and post social content that expands awareness, interaction, and audience growth on Facebook, Instagram, and LinkedIn.
- Handle both organic and paid social efforts, including scheduling through tools such as Meta Business Suite.
- Engage with the community by replying to comments, encouraging conversation, and supporting member development.
- Monitor and summarize metrics such as follower growth, engagement, and content results.
- Keep up with evolving social media trends, best practices, regulations, and new technologies.
- Act as the main internal steward of MFAStPete.org on WordPress, ensuring accuracy, SEO, and alignment with the museum’s marketing and sales platform.
- Oversee website structure, user experience, content, and performance, and coordinate with an external web vendor for maintenance and issue resolution.
- Lead the museum’s email strategy, including planning, scheduling, and performance improvements focused on open rates, engagement, and deliverability.
- Run segmented email campaigns for marketing and development using tools such as Robly or Wordfly.
- Work with museum experience and development teams on audience growth, segmentation, and journey planning.
- Support Google Ads activity across Search, Display, and Video, including keyword research and results tracking in collaboration with an outside agency.
- Measure and report performance using Google Analytics and social media insights, and use findings to guide content and campaign decisions.
- Prepare and distribute press materials, support image and media requests, and coordinate media and influencer outreach, especially through digital channels.
- Maintain a consistent brand voice and visual identity in all outward-facing communications.
- Stay current with American Alliance of Museums standards, museum ethics, and professional best practices.
- Attend planning meetings, collaborate across departments, provide general administrative help to the marketing team, and represent the museum at evening and weekend programs, donor events, and special events as needed.
- Take on additional strategic or operational duties as assigned.
Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, media, or a closely related discipline.
- 3 to 5 years of experience in marketing and social media, with evidence of successful campaign work.
- Strong command of Adobe Creative Suite, including Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, and Premiere, along with Canva and Microsoft Office.
- Hands-on experience with photography and video editing for both short-form and long-form content.
- Experience using WordPress or a similar CMS; familiarity with HTML/CSS is an advantage.
- Solid understanding of social media management, digital marketing, scheduling tools, and analytics platforms.
- Excellent writing, editing, and proofreading skills with sensitivity to brand voice and tone.
- Strong planning, organization, multitasking, and project management abilities.
- Creative, collaborative, and audience-centered approach to work.
- Background in arts, culture, nonprofit, or community-focused organizations is strongly preferred.
