Job description
Role overview
This position is for a manual machinist who will work with several types of conventional machines, including lathes, horizontal and vertical boring machines, milling machines, and similar equipment. The role focuses on producing parts and components in line with work orders, manufacturer instructions, and QHSE procedures, while meeting the required schedule and quality expectations.
Key responsibilities
- Prepare and run machines based on skill level and manufacturer guidance to complete work order requirements using the materials supplied with each job.
- Inspect cutting tools and raw materials before starting work, replace tools from stores when needed, and report material defects to the Workshop Supervisor when necessary.
- Carry out machining activities safely and competently, while maintaining strong housekeeping and safety practices in line with QHSE policies.
- Work with the QC Inspector once the task is finished.
- Complete proper shift handovers at the start and end of each shift, ensuring that all relevant job and safety details are passed on.
- Interpret blueprints, sketches, drawings, manuals, specifications, and sample parts to determine dimensions, tolerances, sequence of operations, and setup needs.
- Start the machine, monitor its operation for faults or machining issues, and make control adjustments as required.
- Choose, position, and secure fixtures, tools, attachments, accessories, and materials on machines such as mills, lathes, vertical borers, grinders, and shapers.
- Handle additional workshop, maintenance, or field-related tasks assigned by the supervisor.
- Keep the work area clean and organized at all times.
- Perform any other duties assigned by management or supervision.
Skills and knowledge
- Strong hands-on capability across multiple machine types, including lathe, horizontal boring, vertical boring, milling, and related equipment.
- Practical experience with pedestal drilling, cast machining, ball grinding, surface grinding, milling machines, horizontal boring machines, vertical boring machines, and ball machining.
- Ability to carry out dimensional quality checks using precision measuring instruments, including shaft TIR verification.
- Good spoken and written English communication.
- Basic numerical and arithmetic ability.
- Working knowledge of machining processes.
- Basic understanding of welding.
Experience
A minimum of 3 years of prior experience is required. Experience with machining API connections is considered an advantage. The ideal background is extensive workshop experience within oil and gas companies.
Education
ITI in Trade Machinist along with NCVT certification.
Physical requirements
This role involves light physical effort. The employee must have sufficient physical ability to work in an office setting and operate office equipment when needed. Travel may be required across the Middle East and GCC countries. Employees are responsible for arriving fit for duty, which includes getting enough rest and nutrition to perform safely and effectively at the scheduled start time.
