Job description

Role summary

In this position, you will oversee the safe, efficient, and compliant running of Ras Laffan Port. The role carries responsibility for the port’s overall strategic direction, day-to-day operations, regulatory adherence, business continuity, safety, asset integrity, and financial outcomes. You will also ensure that port activities remain aligned with state, national, and international maritime requirements.

Key responsibilities

  • Direct and control port operations to ensure smooth, safe, and efficient performance.
  • Maintain compliance with applicable state, national, and international maritime standards.
  • Safeguard continuity of operations, protecting port assets, safety, and service reliability.
  • Manage the strategic, operational, and regulatory performance of the port.
  • Oversee performance in a way that supports financial discipline and operational excellence.

Experience and skills required

  • Bring 15 to 20 years of progressive experience in ports or maritime operations, ideally within the oil and gas sector.
  • Have at least 5 years of experience in a senior port management position.
  • Experience managing complex port activities, infrastructure, or logistics functions is preferred.
  • Demonstrate strong familiarity with international conventions and standards such as MARPOL, SOLAS, and ILO, along with oil and gas industry and shipping requirements.
  • Show strong leadership, risk management, and strategic decision-making capability.
  • Possess excellent communication, negotiation, and stakeholder management skills.

Educational qualification

An internationally recognised senior maritime qualification is required, such as Master Mariner Class 1, or a university degree preferably in Marine Transportation or Marine Engineering; an MBA is considered an advantage.
