Role Overview
Mattel’s Ethics & Compliance function is looking for a Manager, Investigations to oversee and carry out compliance and workplace investigations across the United States. This role is suited to an experienced investigator and employee relations professional who can handle concerns promptly, thoroughly, objectively, and consistently while supporting a culture rooted in integrity, accountability, and respect.
The position involves managing complex investigations in partnership with People & Culture Business Partners, Employment Law, Security, IT, Internal Audit, and other stakeholders. Success in the role requires sound judgment, investigative expertise, and the ability to manage sensitive employee matters while balancing business priorities and employee experience.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead workplace investigations from start to finish involving harassment, discrimination, retaliation, misconduct, policy breaches, and similar employee concerns.
- Collect and review evidence, interview relevant parties, evaluate credibility, and reach findings grounded in facts and applicable policies.
- Draft clear, concise, and factual investigation records such as interview notes, case summaries, conclusions, and recommendations.
- Handle investigations within required timelines while preserving consistency, objectivity, confidentiality, and investigative best practices.
- Share findings, risk assessments, and recommendations with Employment Law, People & Culture, and business leaders to guide decisions and corrective actions.
- Keep case records accurate and current in Mattel’s centralized case management system.
- Act as a reliable advisor to People & Culture Business Partners and business leaders on complex workplace matters.
- Support conflict resolution and mediation efforts to help resolve workplace concerns in a sustainable way.
- Build effective working relationships across the organization and engage confidently with employees at all levels.
- Maintain professionalism, discretion, and strict confidentiality when dealing with sensitive employee issues.
- Work with Compliance partners to improve investigation processes, controls, policies, training, and risk mitigation.
- Review investigation trends and root causes to shape proactive compliance and employee environment initiatives.
- Take part in quarterly reviews with external auditors on investigative matters, controls, and related processes.
- Partner with People & Culture Business Partners to develop and deliver training on workplace conduct, investigations, and employee environment topics.
- Support regional and global investigations as needed alongside the Sr. Director, Global Investigations & Employee Relations and local People & Culture teams.
Requirements
- At least 5 years of experience handling end-to-end workplace investigations involving harassment, discrimination, retaliation, misconduct, and other complex employee matters.
- Strong skills in investigative interviewing, fact-finding, analysis, documentation, and report writing.
- Comfort managing difficult and sensitive conversations with employees and leaders at different levels.
- Ability to build trust, establish credibility, and work effectively with a wide range of stakeholders.
- Excellent organization, project management, time management, and attention to detail.
- Capacity to juggle multiple priorities in a fast-moving, high-volume environment and adjust to changing business needs.
- Strong analytical thinking, problem-solving, collaboration, presentation, and communication abilities.
- Ability to work independently, use sound judgment, and protect confidentiality.
- Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent mix of education and relevant experience is preferred.
- Professional certifications such as AWI-CH, SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP, PHR, SPHR, or similar are preferred.
- Experience with NAVEX or other case management and ethics reporting systems is preferred.
- Spanish written and spoken proficiency is preferred.
- Experience supporting investigations across multiple jurisdictions or in global organizations is preferred.
