Role Overview

As the Manager: Database Administration, you will be responsible for maintaining the availability, integrity, and performance of OceanBase databases that support MIDAS's core wallet services on the Alipay A+ platform. This position is part of the Infrastructure, Operations, and Security unit and involves hands-on database administration tasks, including incident and problem management, performance tuning, backups, recovery, and management of high availability environments. You will also develop tools and automation to streamline database operations such as capacity planning, resource utilization, monitoring, alerting, and routine database administration activities.

Key Responsibilities

• Maintain and ensure optimal uptime, data integrity, and system performance of OceanBase databases critical to wallet services post-launch.
• Engage in proactive monitoring, problem resolution, and performance optimization of business-critical databases.
• Create and enhance database operation tools and automation workflows for backup, recovery, and system health checks.
• Analyze database performance indicators including availability metrics, query efficiency, replication delay, capacity trends, and incident history to implement reliability improvements and tuning measures.
• Contribute to best practice documentation, data architecture and schema reviews, capacity design, and develop clear technical guidelines and runbooks to elevate database operational readiness.

Candidate Profile & Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree or higher in Computer Science, IT, Engineering, Information Systems, or a related discipline.
• Between five to eight years of experience managing production databases, particularly distributed systems or those compatible with MySQL/Oracle.
• Proven expertise in supporting large-scale, high-transaction volume databases common in payment, banking, fintech, telecoms, or extensive internet platforms.
• Hands-on familiarity with OceanBase or a strong background in MySQL/Oracle coupled with openness to upskill on OceanBase’s installation, configuration, tuning, and troubleshooting.
• Advanced skills in SQL and PL/SQL and proficiency with scripting languages such as Shell or Python to improve operational tooling.
• Competence in backup/recovery, replication, high availability, performance optimization, capacity planning, incident analysis, and disaster recovery strategies.
• Experience functioning in multinational, partner-driven, or cross-border operational contexts.
• Strong English communication skills and an ability to operate effectively both independently and within collaborative, high-pressure settings.

Preferred Qualifications

• Relevant database certifications such as OceanBase (OBCA/OBCP), Oracle OCP, MySQL, Alibaba Cloud (ACP/ACE), Linux, or ITIL.
• Experience working with Alipay’s A+ technology stack, Alibaba Cloud services, OceanBase Cloud Platform (OCP)/OMS, container technologies, or cloud-native database platforms.

The role is a managerial level individual contributor position requiring hands-on expertise and strong problem-solving capabilities in a dynamic, international fintech environment.
