Job description

Role Overview

This position leads business finance support for a corporate and commercial environment in Doha. The role centers on preparing financial and strategic reporting, tracking budget variances, assessing risks and opportunities, and driving cost-control actions. It also supports middle management with financial business cases, dashboards, analysis, and other decision-support material. The role requires close coordination of team members, prioritization of senior finance requests, and strong adherence to company accounting policies and procedures.

Key Responsibilities

  • Create, maintain, and improve internal accounting policies and standard operating procedures for the business unit, with an emphasis on stronger controls and better processes.
  • Support risk management by analyzing trends and modeling the impact of risks on operations, projects, strategic goals, and business initiatives.
  • Set up and maintain accounting practices, and supervise month-end and year-end closing activities.
  • Build advanced financial models and use quantitative methods such as trend review, root-cause analysis, profitability analysis, scenario modelling, and unit-cost benchmarking.
  • Take part in annual strategic planning, including market and industry analysis, SWOT review, scenario planning, budgeting, forecasting, strawman development, and sensitivity analysis.
  • Develop strong working relationships with leaders in the assigned business area.
  • Promote a decision-making approach where proposed projects are first assessed for value, risk, and priority before submission.
  • Prepare and present monthly KPI performance reports to budget owners, including revenue and expense variance analysis, ensuring submissions are timely for both the user department and Finance.
  • Prepare and present quarterly rolling forecasts to business and financial stakeholders.
  • Review actual results, forecasts, and budgets, and prepare performance analysis for senior management against benchmarks.
  • Evaluate commercial contracts and business proposals for compliance with policies and procedures.
  • Provide objective financial insight and recommendations to support efficient resource allocation and business objectives.
  • Deliver continuing financial analysis and guidance through regular review, cost-reduction initiatives, and target tracking.
  • Lead the budgeting cycle on time and in line with CFO direction on cost efficiency for direct operating costs, manpower, and overheads; challenge budget holders to ensure resources are used optimally.
  • Improve presentations and analysis submitted to the Cost Management Committee, and complete post-CMC analysis for major capital projects and spend.
  • Carry out detailed analysis of complex business and strategic issues, extract and interpret data, present findings, and recommend actions to the business.
  • Monitor expenditure variances continuously, ensure spending stays within plan or budget, and initiate investigations and corrective controls when variances are material.
  • Review and update financial forecasts, highlighting associated risks and opportunities.
  • Oversee inventory controls and ensure stock levels remain within approved order and reorder limits.

Candidate Profile

  • Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent qualification, along with at least 8 years of relevant work experience.
  • Minimum 5 years in a management position.
  • Background in the passenger airline sector with solid understanding of operational costs and cost-unit measurement.
  • Proven ability to work to strict internal reporting deadlines while handling competing priorities and interruptions.
  • Ability to analyze and interpret data and communicate insights effectively.
  • Good understanding of internal finance systems.
  • Knowledge of cost center accounting, budgeting, and forecasting.
  • Strong analytical capability, including variance review, business cycle understanding, and impact analysis on profit and loss.
  • Excellent computer skills, including Microsoft Excel, Word, MS Access, and PowerPoint, plus proficiency in Oracle Financials.
  • Strong leadership and people-management skills, including delegation, workflow control, mentoring, coaching, training, development, and teamwork building.
