About the Role
As a Maintenance Worker at Mount Royal University in Calgary, AB, you will work under the Facilities Coordinator's guidance to perform routine upkeep and minor repairs within the Residence Complex. Your duties will encompass a variety of maintenance and cleaning functions supporting student living areas, offices, building exteriors, and common spaces. This position primarily responds to student work orders and executes non-tradesman level maintenance tasks. You will also assist with preventative maintenance, emergency support, and major projects as needed. A cooperative attitude and efficient teamwork are essential, especially during peak residence periods such as move-in and move-out seasons. This is a replacement term role ending October 2, 2026.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct interior repairs including painting, drywall patching, carpet and tile replacement, door hardware and lock adjustments, basic appliance fixes, furniture and fixture repair, carpentry, and minor plumbing tasks under supervision.
- Perform exterior maintenance such as touch-up painting, screen repairs, window washing, eaves trough cleaning, minor carpentry, and minor electrical repairs not requiring trades certification.
- Assume elevated duties in the absence of the Facilities Coordinator, including liaising with Physical Resources and contractors and making operational decisions.
- Support and oversee summer maintenance staff, delegating tasks and ensuring timely completion of assignments in coordination with management.
- Install and assemble non-specialized items like ceiling tiles, blinds, shelving, lighting, furnace filters, and furniture, including handling and moving heavy equipment and appliances during busy periods.
- Conduct inspections of the Residence Complex to detect damage, vandalism, or repair needs; maintain logs and reports for coordinator review.
- Maintain clean and organized work areas, track tool and supply inventory, and suggest restocking or equipment upgrades.
- Assist tradesmen by preparing tools and equipment, facilitating their work efficiently under close supervision.
Qualifications
- High school diploma supplemented with additional relevant coursework.
- Between 18 to 24 months of experience in a related maintenance role.
- Competency in safely operating various tools and equipment.
- Good communication skills and physical fitness suitable for the work.
- Basic proficiency with computers.
Compensation and Work Conditions
The hourly wage for this position ranges from $25.78 to $32.64. The job requires full-time hours onsite at the MRU Main Campus and may involve work during holidays or outside regular hours to support residence events. It is a replacement term position concluding on October 2, 2026.
