About the Role

Join the Department of Transportation as a Maintenance Repairman 2 and use practical construction and repair skills to help keep transportation infrastructure safe and dependable. This is a hands-on public service role where your work contributes directly to the condition of structures and systems used by the community.

What You’ll Do

You will support transportation maintenance and construction work by carrying out skilled tasks on job sites. The role involves preparing work, using tools and equipment correctly, and following established safety and environmental practices.

• Review project needs, identify required materials, and get work areas ready for construction activities.
• Carry out carpentry and concrete tasks by measuring, cutting, and placing materials accurately.
• Choose appropriate tools and equipment and operate them in a safe, effective manner.
• Follow safety procedures, stay alert to hazards, and report issues without delay.
• Complete assigned environmental protection duties as part of maintenance operations.

Work Schedule and Conditions

• This is a full-time position.
• Regular hours are 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday through Friday, with a 30-minute lunch break.
• Winter operations may require schedule changes.
• Telework is not available for this role.
• Selected new hires entering Commonwealth employment will start at an annual salary of $40,685 before taxes.

Experience and Eligibility

Applicants may qualify through one of the following paths:

• Two years of experience as a Maintenance Repairman 1, or in an equivalent federal job title recognized by the Office of Administration.
• Four years of experience in building and plant maintenance that includes at least two of the following trades: building, electrical, or mechanical.
• An equivalent mix of experience and training that provides the needed knowledge, skills, and abilities.

Other Requirements

• A valid Pennsylvania Class C Driver’s License is required.
• You must be capable of performing the essential duties of the position.
• If selected, you must submit criminal history reports as part of a conditional employment offer.
