Job description

Role overview

This is an opportunity to join a South West NHS repairs and maintenance team as a Fabric Engineer / Building Maintenance Operative. The role supports a partnership contract with an NHS Trust and focuses on delivering a high-quality repairs service across healthcare buildings.

Rydon Maintenance is a growing part of the Rydon Group. Within its healthcare business, it provides hard facilities management services to the NHS through long-term partnering arrangements. For more than 40 years, the organisation has supported the upkeep of over 250 buildings for 20 NHS Trusts, delivering planned maintenance, responsive repairs and small works across hospitals, ambulance trusts, primary care trusts and mental health trusts.

The position is mobile and covers multiple hospital and healthcare sites between Swindon and Salisbury. You will work within a skilled maintenance team and contribute to both reactive repairs and planned preventative maintenance activities.

What the job involves

Day-to-day work may include a mix of repair, replacement, inspection and upgrade tasks depending on your background and experience. Typical assignments can include work on doors and frames, taps and washers, TMV servicing or replacement, cabinets and wall-mounted units, pipework, skirting, boxing-in, sentinel checks, lamp changes, fire door inspections, fire alarm testing, lock replacement and other fabric-related building repairs.

Alongside reactive maintenance, you may also support planned improvement and refurbishment work designed to help maintain a safe environment for patients, staff and visitors.

Working pattern

Normal working hours are 8:00am to 5:00pm, Monday to Friday. There is also an on-call rota, which may provide extra income and involve attending urgent breakdowns or repair issues outside standard hours.

Additional information

The successful applicant must pass DBS disclosure checks and hold a full UK driving licence.

This employer is committed to equal opportunities and values diversity in the workplace. Selection is based on the ability to perform the role.

The recruitment process is designed to be simple and can be completed with a CV uploaded from a computer or cloud account, or via social profiles. The company also highlights its culture, career development opportunities and broader employee benefits package.

About the employer

You would be joining a well-established and progressive maintenance business with a strong focus on healthcare estates. The organisation aims to support the NHS by helping create safe, comfortable environments for staff and service users, while also offering scope to develop professionally within the team.
