Job description
Role overview
Levande is looking for a practical, community-minded Maintenance Officer to support its Mernda retirement living community in Doreen, Victoria. The position suits someone who enjoys hands-on work and takes pride in keeping shared spaces safe, functional and inviting for residents.
About the organisation
Levande operates retirement living communities across Australia with a focus on connected, welcoming environments where residents can live independently and confidently. The company places strong emphasis on quality communities, safety and the people who help maintain them.
About the role
This is a permanent full-time onsite role for 38 hours per week, from Monday to Friday, with pay of $38 per hour. Reporting to the Village Manager, you will help manage everyday maintenance, repairs, safety and presentation across the village. The role is varied and resident-facing, so it requires good communication, initiative and the ability to balance multiple tasks.
Key duties
- Carry out general repairs, routine upkeep and practical handyman work throughout the village
- Help maintain community facilities, shared areas and outdoor spaces so they remain tidy and well presented
- Act quickly on maintenance issues and urgent safety concerns
- Work with contractors when specialised work needs to be arranged or supervised
- Complete preventative maintenance tasks and keep maintenance records up to date
- Support waste handling, equipment care and other operational tasks as needed
- Track maintenance consumables and assist with purchasing materials and equipment in a cost-conscious way
- Develop positive working relationships with residents, contractors and colleagues
- Support compliance with workplace health and safety requirements and help maintain a strong safety culture
- Contribute ideas and effort toward improvements that enhance village operations and the resident experience
About you
You should have a background in maintenance, facilities, grounds or property-related work, along with solid troubleshooting skills and the confidence to work on your own. The role calls for a resident-friendly communication style, strong attention to detail, physical capability for manual work and a valid driver licence.
Preferred background
Experience in retirement living, aged care, hospitality, property or facilities settings will be viewed favourably. Trade qualifications, maintenance certifications and experience using maintenance or facilities management systems are also an advantage.
Why this role
You’ll be part of a supportive team within a growing national organisation that values safety, community, continuous improvement and delivering exceptional retirement living experiences. The role offers the chance to combine practical maintenance work with meaningful day-to-day interaction with residents.
