Role Overview

Novolex is hiring a Maintenance Mechanic Expert in Athens, GA, and is looking to fill the role immediately. The position focuses on keeping production equipment and related systems operating safely and efficiently. Candidates must be able to pass a Ramsey Mechanical Aptitude test.

Compensation

  • Starting pay is $32.16 per hour.
  • A one-time sign-on bonus of $5,000 is offered.
  • Pay may be adjusted based on experience and qualifications.
  • The role is eligible for annual raises and skill-based wage increases.
  • Monthly plant-productivity bonuses may also apply.

Work Schedule

  • The job uses 8-hour shifts.
  • Shifts rotate weekly between first and second shift.
  • First shift runs from 07:00 AM to 03:00 PM.
  • Second shift runs from 03:00 PM to 11:00 PM.

Key Duties

  • Follow all site safety rules and wear the required PPE, which may include hairnets, earplugs, gloves, aprons, safety glasses, and steel-toed safety shoes.
  • Examine faulty equipment, identify the issue, and use tools, manuals, gauges, and testing equipment to troubleshoot it.
  • Take equipment apart for repairs or preventive upkeep, and reassemble it after the work is complete; some facility maintenance work may also be involved.
  • Carry out scheduled preventive maintenance so machines, building systems, and related equipment continue to run properly.
  • Repair or replace worn components such as bearings, gears, and other special parts, and perform minor carpentry or basic facility repair when needed.
  • Service machinery by changing oil, lubricants, batteries, compressors, power supplies, and conveyors, and use blueprints, repair manuals, or parts catalogs to support troubleshooting.
  • Check part dimensions and clearances to make sure they meet factory standards, and assemble, install, or connect systems such as plumbing, machinery, and equipment.
  • Weld or cut parts when required using MIG or arc welding equipment, and complete checklist-based maintenance such as inspecting belts, drives, and fluid levels, or replacing filters.
  • Make fine adjustments to device components and control instruments using hand tools and alignment tools.
  • Keep the maintenance area clean and organized, including care of tools and repair equipment, and clean or lubricate moving parts as needed.
  • Install, diagnose, monitor, repair, and reassemble production lines and press equipment as part of day-to-day support.
  • Continue to follow safety procedures and all facility requirements at all times.

Requirements

  • At least 3 to 5 years of maintenance experience is required.
  • Applicants must be able to pass the Ramsey Assessment, which tests mechanical knowledge.
  • Machining experience with equipment such as mills, lathes, grinders, saws, and drills is a plus.
  • Welding experience with TIG and stick methods is preferred.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and schematics for electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems is needed.
  • Plumbing knowledge, including threading and soldering joints, is desired.
  • Working knowledge of mechanical systems such as gears, pulleys, chains, belts, shafts, gearboxes, pumps, compressors, and HVAC systems is important.
  • Working knowledge of electrical systems, including AC and DC motors and drives, 480V three-phase systems, transformers, control power, and relays, is required.
  • Working knowledge of pneumatic systems, including valves, controls, pressure, flow, and cylinders, is needed.
  • Working knowledge of hydraulic systems, including valves, controls, pressure, flow, and cylinders, is required.
  • Working knowledge of electronic systems, including controls, ladder logic, PLC programming, and C programming, is expected.
  • A strong attendance record and solid work ethic are required.
  • Candidates should be self-driven, able to work independently, and able to prioritize tasks.
  • Must be able to stand for 8 hours per day.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs frequently.
  • Must be able to wear protective gear as required.
