Role overview

Gallagher is hiring a Maintenance Engineer for its manufacturing team in Pukekohe, Auckland. This is a practical, on-site role focused on keeping plant and equipment running reliably, safely, and in line with production goals. The position works a day shift from 6:00am to 2:30pm, Monday to Friday, and reports to the Maintenance Supervisor.

What you will do

  • Perform scheduled preventative maintenance according to the maintenance plan.
  • Attend equipment breakdowns and carry out repairs as quickly and effectively as possible.
  • Diagnose machine issues and suggest ways to improve reliability and performance.
  • Log maintenance work and activity in the CMMS system.
  • Contribute to Lean and 5S practices, along with wider continuous improvement efforts.
  • Take part in Practical Problem Solving and root cause analysis activities.
  • Work in coordination with supervisors, production teams, and outside contractors.
  • Support a workplace that is safe, organised, and focused on strong output.

Equipment and systems exposure

The role involves maintenance across a varied manufacturing environment, including hydraulic presses, custom press tooling, thread forming machines, welding equipment, production jigs, Hot Dip Galvanising and Electroplating plant systems, pumps, motors, pipework, chemical tanks, boiler systems, and effluent treatment equipment. The position may also involve working at heights and around forklifts and cranes. There is an added opportunity to contribute to design and improvement work using AutoCAD, Fusion 360, and CNC systems.

About you

Gallagher is seeking a reliable, adaptable, and hands-on maintenance professional who can work well in a fast-moving setting and take initiative when needed.

Requirements

  • A degree or technical qualification in Engineering, Maintenance, or a related discipline at Level 4.
  • At least 3 years of experience as a trade-qualified engineer in a manufacturing setting.
  • Strong ability to troubleshoot mechanical faults.
  • Exposure to hydraulics, pneumatics, machining, or fabrication is preferred.
  • Understanding of Practical Problem Solving, root cause analysis, and Lean methods.
  • Ability to work independently with strong time management.
  • Good IT ability, with Excel or SAP experience considered an advantage.
  • Clear communication skills and strong attention to detail.
