Job description
Overview
Element Materials Technology is seeking a Machinist to become part of its growing operations function in Doha, Qatar. This role involves carrying out both routine and more complex machining work within the assigned department, with a focus on producing accurate and timely test results while working under direct oversight.
The position also requires a solid understanding of essential workplace practices, including adherence to safety standards, the company’s code of conduct, and internal policies and procedures.
What you will do
- Use cutting tools and related equipment to prepare test specimens in line with customer instructions.
- Plan, configure, and carry out a range of machining activities based on customer needs and specifications.
- Operate with limited supervision while taking technical direction when required from a Department Manager, Principal Machinist, Project Coordinator, or Engineer.
- Support and guide less experienced machinists by clearly sharing machining methods and technical information.
- Explain machining processes and requirements in a way that helps meet customer expectations consistently.
- Keep machinery in good working order and follow the preventive maintenance schedule.
- Measure and document dimensions according to quality assurance standards.
Requirements
- Good understanding of laboratory safety practices.
- A high school diploma or GED is preferred; college or vocational training is a plus.
- An associate degree in a relevant testing or science discipline and/or 3 to 6 years of machining shop experience is required.
- Strong knowledge of specimen preparation methods.
- An associate degree in a mechanical-related field is also considered relevant.
- Solid grasp of machining principles, measuring tools, and dimensional concepts.
- Knowledge of machine shop safety procedures.
- Strong computer literacy.
- Ability to use basic algebra and geometry is an advantage.
Physical requirements
- Moderate level of physical effort is expected.
- Frequent lifting of items under 50 lbs, with occasional lifting above 50 lbs.
- Ability to remain on your feet for extended periods.
- Capability to lift 50+ lbs from time to time.
