Job description
Role overview
TAG Software Group is offering a fall-semester internship for a university student or recent graduate who wants practical exposure to mergers and acquisitions. This opportunity is designed for someone with an interest in finance, investing, and the software industry, and it offers direct involvement in real deal activity.
About TAG Software Group
TAG Software Group is made up of seasoned investors and operators who focus on acquiring and expanding software businesses that are essential to their customers. The firm works with SMB, enterprise, and public sector software companies and, as part of Valsoft Corporation, aims to provide a permanent long-term home for these businesses.
Investment approach
Rather than following a traditional private equity or venture capital model, TAG acts as an entrepreneurial buyer that partners with existing management teams to strengthen and grow software companies. The emphasis is on building lasting value and putting employees and customers first, not chasing short-term outcomes.
Culture
The company describes its environment as collaborative and performance-driven, with a strong belief that people are its most important asset. It values ambition balanced with humility, encourages ongoing learning, and recognizes shared success.
What you will do
This internship is structured around three main areas of work: sourcing opportunities, supporting transactions, and helping with business development. The role gives the intern exposure to the full M&A process while contributing to the firm’s growth efforts.
- Independently research and identify potential software investment opportunities.
- Help build and manage a strong pipeline of prospective deals.
- Support transaction execution through financial modeling and commercial due diligence.
- Carry out detailed financial analysis to assess opportunities.
- Travel to meet businesses across Europe and assist with relationship-building efforts.
- Develop and maintain professional relationships within the industry.
Ideal candidate
The company is looking for someone currently pursuing, or recently completing, a bachelor’s or master’s degree in Finance, Business, Economics, or a closely related discipline. The right candidate should be analytical, comfortable with problem-solving, and confident working with valuation concepts, Excel, and financial models. Strong communication skills, a willingness to learn, and genuine enthusiasm for software and investing are important. English fluency is required, and knowledge of additional languages is considered an advantage.
Why join
This role offers international travel, including onboarding in the Toronto office, along with direct hands-on experience in mergers and acquisitions. The intern will receive mentoring from experienced professionals, opportunities to network, and a chance to grow within an entrepreneurial setting where new ideas can have real impact.
Additional information
The position is based onsite in Toronto, Ontario, Canada and is structured as a temporary internship. The source did not specify stipend details, number of openings, application deadline, start date, or internship duration.
Growth path
The role is presented as an entry point into a long-term career track, with the possibility of progressing from intern to M&A leader over time.
