About the organization
The City of Grande Prairie is a lively and expanding community in Alberta’s Peace Country, where the focus is on strong public service and a high quality of life for residents. The city describes itself as a great place to live, work, and enjoy daily life.
The Recreation Department is seeking a reliable Logistics Worker II to support operations at the Community Knowledge Campus.
Role overview
This position supports the preparation of facility spaces for public use by handling setup, take down, light repairs, cleaning, maintenance, and general event support. The role also helps uphold Fieldhouse rules and facility standards.
Key duties
- Review the daily booking schedule to ensure rooms and spaces are ready for classes, programs, meetings, rentals, and drop-in use.
- Plan and carry out daily setup and teardown of equipment and facility areas for regular bookings, special events, and drop-in activities across the campus.
- Provide patrons with the equipment they need and make sure all items are checked, maintained, and stored properly.
- Support birthday parties by preparing the room, welcoming guests, assisting during the event, and completing cleanup and takedown afterward.
- Act as the on-site logistics contact for events ranging from small gatherings to large tournaments, swim meets, provincial events, and similar functions.
- Handle last-minute changes for user groups, including resolving issues such as double bookings, missing equipment, and unprepared spaces.
- Review event plans for major events and work with the supervisor to make any needed changes.
- Collect hourly headcounts in physical spaces and record them for spontaneous-use tracking.
- Ensure the CKC Field and Grandstand are properly prepared, opened, and closed for rentals, bookings, and special events.
- Watch for correct wristbands, answer guest questions, and respond to service requests.
- Provide front-line support to help guests and members follow facility expectations while encouraging positive engagement.
- Offer guidance, direction, and leadership to the Logistics Assistant and Logistics Worker I.
Qualifications
- At least 1 to 2 years of directly related experience, ideally in a Logistics Worker I role or a similar position.
- Ability to work independently and manage tasks without close supervision.
- Valid Standard First Aid certification with CPR Level C and AED is required.
- Comfortable working in loud and stressful environments.
- Able to meet the physical demands of the role, including extended walking, lifting, standing, and repetitive tasks.
- Strong ability to handle conflict situations.
Work schedule
The regular workweek averages 40 hours. Exact scheduling will be determined by the immediate supervisor.
Compensation and benefits
The pay rate is $28.47 per hour under the Out-of-Scope Agreement.
A comprehensive benefits package is included.
Selection process and additional notes
Applications must include a cover letter and current resume. Only shortlisted candidates will be contacted for interviews by phone or email.
The posting will remain open until a suitable candidate or candidates are found. It may also be used to fill future vacancies and more than one position.
Applicants should expect an email confirmation after submitting the application and uploading a resume. If that confirmation is received, no further contact is needed regarding the application.
Because of the high volume of applications, job-specific questions cannot be answered before the interview stage. Questions may be addressed if a candidate moves forward to an interview.
Inclusion statement
The City of Grande Prairie states that it is committed to maintaining an inclusive workplace that values unique experiences, perspectives, talents, and contributions, and that welcomes, supports, respects, and values all members of the community.
