Job description

About the role

This position is responsible for overseeing the ongoing procurement and supply of beef, lamb, and pork across the store network. You will be based at the Favona Road support office in Auckland and will work closely with livestock traders and abattoir partners to improve yield, reduce cost, and maintain consistency.

Key responsibilities

  • Guide and grow a team of livestock managers to ensure supply meets demand and product specifications.
  • Plan weekly livestock schedules for both the North Island and South Island.
  • Deliver financial outcomes across livestock volumes, yields, pricing, and profitability.
  • Build and execute a supply-chain approach that supports a consistent paddock-to-plate flow.
  • Improve operational performance through abattoir partnerships and processes.
  • Work across category, operations, and logistics teams to align planning and execution.

What we’re looking for

We are seeking a commercially minded leader who understands product quality, cost improvement, and the farming sector. The right candidate will bring strong strategic thinking, negotiation capability, and the confidence to influence both internal teams and external partners.

Experience and skills

  • Background in the livestock and/or abattoir sector.
  • Proven strength in negotiation and stakeholder influence.
  • Experience leading, coaching, and developing high-performing teams.
  • Solid understanding of the meat industry, including livestock buying and abattoir operations.
  • Excellent people skills and the ability to manage cross-functional relationships.

What you can expect

  • A workplace culture focused on care, belonging, safety, and wellbeing.
  • Training, learning, and ongoing career development support.
  • Competitive pay and access to employee benefits.
  • A hybrid work arrangement combining office/hub time with work from home.
  • Programs and support to help manage wellbeing, including a competitive leave policy and 24/7 access to the Sonder app.
  • A business committed to sustainability and a better future.
