Job description
Role Overview
The Lifting Equipment Superintendent will take charge of the end-to-end management of lifting equipment across project locations. This includes making sure that equipment is operated safely, kept in good condition, inspected on time, certified correctly, and used in line with international standards, manufacturer instructions, and HSE requirements. The role is focused on keeping the fleet reliable, available, and efficient for daily project needs.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee all lifting equipment operations, covering mobile cranes, crawler cranes, forklifts, manlifts, scissor lifts, and related lifting accessories.
- Direct the lifting team, including operators, riggers, inspectors, and maintenance staff.
- Make sure lifting equipment and lifting gear are inspected, serviced, repaired, and certified according to relevant regulations, industry practices, and OEM guidelines.
- Assess, prepare, and sign off lifting plans, rigging studies, risk assessments, and method statements for complex, heavy, tandem, and critical lifting activities.
- Check the technical condition and certification status of crane structures, booms, wire ropes, sheaves, load moment indicators, safety systems, and other associated parts.
- Coach crane operators and rigging teams through technical support, training, competency checks, and performance improvement.
- Maintain strict compliance with HSE requirements, local laws, and international lifting standards.
- Liaise with crane makers, distributors, and service vendors on technical faults, repairs, upgrades, and warranty-related issues.
- Use lifting engineering software and load chart analysis tools to support safe lifting execution.
- Plan replacement, refurbishment, and asset management approaches to improve reliability and reduce lifecycle cost.
- Handle spare parts stock and maintenance resources to avoid downtime and maintain equipment readiness.
- Compile operational updates, maintenance logs, inspection documents, and management reports.
- Lead investigations into lifting incidents, equipment breakdowns, and near-miss events, and drive corrective and preventive actions.
- Assist project teams with planning and delivery of major lifting works across construction and infrastructure jobs.
Equipment Fleet Exposure
The suitable candidate should have hands-on experience managing substantial fleets of heavy lifting equipment, such as TEREX DEMAG CC2200, TEREX DEMAG CC2400-1, TEREX DEMAG CC2500-1, LIEBHERR LTM 1100-5.2, LIEBHERR LTM 1130 (130T), LIEBHERR LTM 1200-5.1, LIEBHERR LTM 1220 (220T), KOBELCO CKE2500-2, KOBELCO CKS1350, as well as mobile cranes, crawler cranes, forklifts, manlifts, and scissor lifts.
Qualifications and Experience
- A Bachelor’s degree or diploma in Mechanical Engineering is required.
- At least 12 years of experience in lifting equipment operations, maintenance, and fleet management is needed.
- A minimum of 5 years of GCC experience in a comparable supervisory or managerial position is required.
- Background in large construction, infrastructure, or oil and gas projects is strongly preferred.
- Solid understanding of international lifting standards, crane operations, rigging methods, and safety rules is essential.
- The ability to develop and assess detailed lifting studies and critical lift plans is necessary.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office is required, and AutoCAD experience will be an advantage.
- Strong leadership, communication, and people management abilities are important.
- Excellent written and spoken English is required.
- Preferred age range: 38 to 45 years.
