Job description
Role overview
Based at Longford Forest in Ballymahon, County Longford, this Lifeguard position offers €15.73 per hour. The role sits within the Subtropical Swimming Paradise, where the main focus is to help keep guests safe while ensuring they feel welcome and well looked after.
What you'll do
- Keep a close watch on pool areas, act quickly in emergencies, and put guest safety first at all times.
- Deliver courteous, professional service and support a positive experience for every visitor.
- Help maintain a clean environment while following all health and safety procedures.
- Undertake NPLQ training and demonstrate practical rescue, first aid, and CPR capability.
Training and entry requirements
Applicants must be strong swimmers and be able to complete a swim test during the interview. The assessment includes diving into deep water, timed swimming on both front and back, and leaving the pool without assistance.
For trainee lifeguards, a 5-day NPLQ course is mandatory, and employment depends on successfully passing it. The course covers lifeguard duties, observing pool users, rescue techniques, first aid, and CPR.
Qualified lifeguards must already hold RLSS Pool Lifeguard or IWS certification and have completed 20 hours of continuing professional development.
Working pattern
- Contracts are available on a full-time and part-time basis.
- Shifts run between 8:00am and 8:00pm, and midweek availability is required.
- A guaranteed minimum number of hours is offered across each 4-week period, with extra hours possible depending on operational needs.
- The role includes evening, weekend, and bank holiday work.
- Sunday hours are paid at a premium rate.
Benefits
- Complimentary day passes and access to leisure amenities, including the spa.
- Discounts on short breaks, retail purchases, and food and drink outlets.
- Access to a bonus scheme and reward-based recognition.
- Support from a welcoming and collaborative team.
- Opportunities for development and on-the-job training.
Who this role suits
This opportunity is suitable for people who are friendly, genuine, warm, and comfortable working with both guests and colleagues. Strong communication, a calm approach under pressure, and a commitment to excellent guest care are essential.
Additional information
Garda vetting is required before starting, and support will be provided with that process.
Longford Forest is not easy to access by public transport, so candidates should check their travel route before applying.
Applications may close once enough interest has been received, so early submission is encouraged.
The company also notes that everyone is welcome and that it values diversity, equity, inclusion, and respectful treatment for all. Recruitment is based on behaviours rather than qualifications or previous experience alone, and candidates can request support or reasonable adjustments during the application or interview process.
The organisation describes its values as caring, being brave, staying determined, and being naturally authentic.
