Job description

Position Overview

This role involves developing, coordinating, and managing academic support services and student success initiatives aimed at fostering academic excellence, retention, and progression within the College of Osteopathic Medicine. The Learning Specialist delivers personalized academic coaching, works alongside faculty and staff on student support approaches, and oversees learning assistance programs, peer mentoring, and academic interventions.

Core Responsibilities

  • Ensure adherence to College of Osteopathic Medicine (OCOM) policies.
  • Design and execute comprehensive, proactive support plans targeted at students facing academic difficulties to build independent, self-driven learners.
  • Administer the learning specialist program including presentations, workshops, individualized coaching, and learning assignments.
  • Develop data-oriented programs to aid academically challenged students, aiming to boost retention and graduation rates.
  • Formulate, implement, and track individualized COMLEX preparation strategies, leveraging academic data, exam results, NBOME resources, and faculty input to optimize board exam readiness.
  • Monitor student progression towards COMLEX readiness metrics; identify at-risk students using performance analytics and collaborate with relevant departments to create intervention plans.
  • Coordinate board exam preparation activities such as workshops, study scheduling, COMSAE prep sessions, and readiness evaluations while documenting participant outcomes.
  • Manage and implement peer tutoring and teaching assistant programs.
  • Collaborate with Academic Advisors to observe student progress and deliver targeted support.
  • Organize access and monitor usage of academic services including tutoring by recommending evidence-based interventions.
  • Partner with faculty and course leaders to adopt best practices aimed at student success.
  • Maintain compliance with applicable governmental, institutional, and agency regulations.
  • Protect confidentiality of student records according to FERPA guidelines.
  • Support accreditation activities by creating documents, collecting and entering data, educating staff, and handling related administrative tasks.
  • Perform additional related responsibilities as required.

Supervisory Responsibility

This role has no supervisory duties.

Essential Qualifications

  • Master’s degree accompanied by at least 5 years of full-time experience in student learning support or a Bachelor’s degree with 10 years’ experience.
  • Preferred prior experience as a Learning Specialist at Osteopathic or Allopathic Medical Colleges.
  • Strong team spirit valuing cooperative and supportive group dynamics.
  • Legal authorization to work in the United States.
  • Applicants must reside locally in Central Florida.

Physical Requirements
