Job description

About the company

Acorns is focused on improving the financial wellbeing of everyday people and families by making saving and investing accessible from the very beginning. The company’s mission is supported by a set of core values that emphasize compassion, courage, trust, continuous learning, and a relentless problem-solving mindset.

Its product experience is designed to speak to customers in a clear, supportive, and human way, especially around topics that can feel intimidating or emotionally charged. Acorns aims to help people manage money with confidence by combining thoughtful product design with education that meets them where they are.

Role overview

Acorns is seeking a Lead Writer, Product & Education to own the voice and tone system across the customer experience. This role will shape how the product communicates with millions of families, from onboarding and error states to educational moments and long-form learning content. The ideal candidate will bring strong editorial judgment, product writing expertise, and a deep belief in the power of content to improve people’s financial lives.

What you will do

  • Own and evolve the company’s voice and tone framework, ensuring the language across the customer journey is clear, empathetic, and consistent.
  • Partner with cross-functional teams to create seamless end-to-end experiences where design and copy work together naturally.
  • Turn complicated financial concepts and legal constraints into messaging that is easy to understand, transparent, and approachable.
  • Use customer testing and feedback to improve copy so that every interaction feels supportive and relevant.
  • Lead the in-app education direction by researching and writing timely content that supports financial wellbeing.
  • Raise the quality of the writing craft across the team by mentoring writers and collaborating with partners across disciplines.

What you’ll bring

  • At least 7 years of experience in UX writing or product content, with demonstrated ability to simplify complex systems through microcopy, product flows, and long-form content.
  • Experience in fintech, financial services, or edtech is beneficial, though the key requirement is having written through complexity and taken ownership of the work.
  • A proactive approach that identifies content needs independently and forms clear recommendations without waiting for a formal brief.
  • Strong ability to teach through content, especially by creating in-product learning experiences and articles that people can understand and act on.
  • High attention to detail, including the precision of language, the rhythm of interface copy, and the emotional context of users handling money.
  • A mission-oriented mindset with genuine enthusiasm for using writing to support broader social and financial change.

What we offer

  • Competitive salary along with stock options.
  • A full benefits package for employees and their families.
  • Flexible work arrangement, including location, hours, and paid time off.
  • 401(k) matching.
  • Monthly Acorns account contribution plus a GoHenry account for family use.
  • Mindfulness and financial wellness resources, including Headspace and Addition Wealth.
  • Career development support through ongoing training, development plans, check-ins, and access to Cornerstone’s online learning platform.
  • Leadership development through the Roots Leadership Program for emerging leaders.
  • Community week onsite gatherings and a range of virtual events.
  • A talented, mission-driven team that cares deeply about one another and about customers.
  • The chance to help build something new while working on meaningful challenges with broad social impact.
