What the role involves
Reporting to a Legal Team Manager, you will work within the Public Defence Service at the Tauranga office and contribute to high-quality criminal defence work.
- Provide strong defence representation for legally aided clients.
- Handle a broad and varied criminal law caseload.
- Support intermediate and senior lawyers as part of the wider legal team.
Skills and experience needed
To succeed in this role, you should be genuinely committed to criminal justice work and bring the following:
- A PAL 1 approval level and current eligibility to practise law in New Zealand.
- Confidence in building trust and credibility with judges, colleagues, and others in the legal system.

Salary and application details
The salary range for this position is $74,490 to $95,403, depending on skills and experience.
