About the Role
Telecon’s Promark-Telecon team is a recognized underground utility locating provider operating across Alberta. The organization is known for its field expertise, reliable service delivery, and solid working relationships with utilities and contractors.
The company is looking to add Junior Utility Locators who want to build a long-term career in a skilled trade with strong demand. Previous locating experience is not needed, as full training and practical field development are provided.
Role Summary
In this field-based, outdoor position, you will support the identification and marking of buried utilities using electromagnetic locating tools, maps, and digital systems. The work requires careful judgment, strong attention to detail, and the ability to make independent decisions after training.

What You Will Do
- Carry out underground utility locating work under supervision while developing your skills.
- Use EM locating tools, GPS equipment, maps, and as-built drawings to identify underground infrastructure.
- Apply paint and flags to mark utility lines in line with Promark and industry standards.
- Prepare digital field notes, photos, and other required records.
- Communicate clearly and professionally with contractors, homeowners, and other stakeholders.
- Follow safety rules, company procedures, and daily field expectations.
- Operate and care for the company vehicle and locating equipment.
- Work toward performing locates independently as your capabilities grow.
Qualifications and Job Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent experience.
- Valid Class 5 driver’s license, with a driver’s abstract required.
- Ability to lift and carry equipment or materials weighing up to 20 lbs.
- Comfortable standing and walking for long periods.
- Willingness to work extra hours during the busy season.
- Ability and readiness to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
- Availability to participate in an on-call rotation when needed.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Experience reading location maps, sketches, prints, or CAD software is considered an asset.
- Good computer skills.
- Ability to drive to and around surrounding areas.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to high-quality work in a fast-paced setting.
- Ability to stay effective under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
- Strong troubleshooting ability and good judgment on when to act or escalate.
- Self-driven, organized, and able to work independently.
- Availability for evening shifts, weekend work, and occasional out-of-town travel if needed.
